Update and a little explanation on Klingon weapons IMO.

Klingon Photons: Notice I didn't call them torpedoes. From all my time watching Star Trek (Discovery doesn't count and don't get me started) Klingon photon launchers always glow right before they fire and Federation ones do not, nor do other powers like Dominion or Cardassian. Because of this i believe the Klingon photon is a ball of energy and doesn't actually have a casing. This is how i justify making Klingon photons unique from Federation torpedoes and different in function.
I do know of the Magnetic Pulse weapon that is canon and fired from the nose of the D7 as seen on screen. That will be another variant! 8-)
Klingon Disruptors: I have taken from many sources to build this D7. I have never heard or seen Klingon ships using phasers in canon. Sorry all you SFB guys. But i do understand the need for some type of point defense. Hence the pulse disruptors and i located them similar to the "phaser emitters" placed on the D7s hull from a couple different sources.
The heavy disruptor Mk 8s are the ones that are mounted on the engines and the Mk 7s hang on the ventral side of the forward sections left and right wings on the 'head' of the ship. Ya know, the little bumps you sometimes see under there. I have seen in places them called other things but i think this works best.
Klingon Tactics: The D7 must keep the enemy in its forward arc for the majority of the battle to be victorious. In Universal Conflict engine 5 will be fast for a Heavy Cruiser. Use it for all you can. D7 will work best in pairs or packs so you can be more certain that a target will be in forward arc.

Oh this is #7 but thank you all the same. As you can guess it is hard to find the time.
Another thing i will be play testing next Wednesday is Seeking weapons but they do NOT get any type of save. My friend has these nasty 4/4 catastrophic, piercing, kinetic missiles that only one needs to get through and thats game. His base saves are 4+. My ship is crippled or destroyed unless i build nothing but PD but even then it only takes one typically.
Soooo... I am hoping that removing these doomsday weapons saves my be a way to mitigate their OP status
He also plays with another guy and the have house ruled NO SEEKERS AT ALL. Yikes! I hate to gut a game like that so i keep using them at my place. I want to believe that is is our faults that we just are not designing the ships correctly. We get stuck in our minds what should work and not what does work. I don't believe Seekers should be house ruled out but after many different approaches to this problem, it still feels to hard to counter.

A fair point. Once it has been tested outside of the SFU, I may make the trait (Evp = "Evaporating") available in the spreadsheet.
For now, however, it has a 0.7 multiplier and works as follows: at the end of each move, if the seeker flight does not impact its target, its IMP is reduced by 1. When reduced to 0, the flight is removed from the game.
Interesting! What I have done in house is made the plasma torpedoes DMG is reduced by one at the end of each move and IMP reduced by one for every hit it takes. Either one goes to zero the Plasma Torpedo is removed. No cost change because of its ability to take hits. Having a Plasma R go down to one little hit was a no go in my book.
Also, it makes you balance the IMP and DMG on your torp designs and not load all into one or the other. Well you can but it will make your torp vulnerable or very short ranged.
I just bought a house and have a new one month old baby. life has been a little crazy. As things settle down i will get back to it!
I am working hard on this! have put well over a hundred hours into this. I have made many drafts and am hammering out the inconsistencies. Currently I am almost done with the Federation timeline with ship launch dates included. This is where I have melded Cannon, SFB, FASA, and other sources into one timeline that makes sense. Now I have had to modify the stardates so it all works but I think most people will be really happy with the result!
I of course have not added every ship SFB and FASA have made (many of them I think are POO, personal opinion  or just redundant) BUT I will add any not included if requested!
I will include many non-cannon ships to fill the gaps, and there are HUGE gaps! So it was needed but nothing is stopping anyone from choosing to use only official cannon ships if they so choose. I will include all cannon ships. (as long as I think they pass the CGI BS test and we all know how bad much of the ST CGI was across ALL the series. Sad thing is now that i think about it, TOS may have had the best "graphics". They never got the scale wrong!
On a side note, I am almost done with the entire (1st edition) Federation Ship List. I have had to redo it many times as I ran into problems with progression and I am sure after feedback I will go over it again before making it official. I know a massive amount of ST ship stuff but it never hurts to get another point of view or opinion because a lot of this I have had to make a best guess.
madpax wrote:For the diamond, I found the rules today.
But I wonder why both the screens (deflector) and the shield? Is the later metallic armour?
Thanks for the answers of the other questions.
Marc
Star Trek shields work in two ways. If possible they will completely deflect or even absorb an attack hence the "shield" in game rules.
Not all attacks can be deflected or absorbed without a cost though. Kind of like a second layer of protection that will "take the hit" before damage gets to the hull. This would be "screens" in game rules. Screen somewhat represent a combination of armor and protective shields but more so on the shield side. Typically in Star Trek it is all about your energy shields. They go down and you go poof! On ships without a shield rating assume the screens represent armor.
I like to use the optional rule of bleed through. This just feels more Star Trek to me.
madpax wrote:About material, there is the babylon 5 vault:http://b5warsvault.wikidot.com. But I suppose you know it.
What is the first line above the hull, with the diamond?
Also, I suppose that the warp drive is the hyperdrive.
And what are the rules for science, and security?
Marc
I have not changed any rules, just a name here and there.
The Diamond is the screen row. This can represent a deflector or armor. Effectively it is extra hit boxes.
Hyperdrive = Warp Drive.
Science is for scenario or campaign play.
Marines = Security.
Ionized hull = Enhanced Hull
And some others I will mention as they come up. But it is all core rules.
madpax wrote:Very interesting
When (and where) the whole range of ships will be released?
They are particularly original. Which material was used to create the ships?
Marc
The "whole range" is quite a lot of ships. That will be in the hundreds. Right now i am releasing bits here and there to see what kind of reactions i get. That way people can give input and affect the final product if they like. No-one is perfect and I am doing this myself other then play testing with my friends. I plan on releasing the factions by era. The TOS Federation will be the first fully completed faction. That way we can get a pretty good base line. Then most likely the TOS Klingons so you have someone to play against. Some spattering of the minor powers like the Kinshaya, Kzinti, ISC and others will pop up from time to time.
As to my material, EVERYTHING. If i can make it make some type of sense it's in! I have seen every episode of every series many times. I have most of the games table top, PC, and console and my friends of have EVERY other game. I even have blueprints and books from the 70's that a friend loaned me that i am afraid to touch because they are falling apart. Web sites like Daystrom Institute Technical Library (DITL) and Memory Alpha and Beta are some of my sources. DITL is a hard core 'canon' site and i don't agree with some of his stuff because I allow for writer and CGI error. DITL for the most part does not. With me if it doesn't make sense it goes out with the trash and the same goes for Memory Alpha and Beta.
I love many of the races you see in the various games that you never hear about on screen and I like to think that many of these events might have taken place in the prime timeline (at least for the purposes of this game) in some form or another.
MRCAcct wrote:Just curious, why do you give the Point Defense modes on the Phasers both Pnp and NPr? You're basically cancelling out the benefits of the Pnp trait to make them slightly less effective against ships at really close range.
The idea is that the phaser is firing multiple shots but still using in total the same amount of energy as if it had fired one concentrated shot (normal fire). These fast shots are for small targets like fighters or missiles.
The NPr is to show that this mode is not meant for ships as the individual shots are much weaker. At the same time I did not like that it reduced the accuracy of the weapon on tiny targets so I used Pnp to offset the penalty.
Up to TOS the Federation did not have much experience against missiles or fighters. In later designs (Late TOS, TMP and onward) you will start to see the NPr go away as Starfleet more often encounters fighters and missiles. This will show that later weapons were built with the rapid fire point defense in mind and not just a stopgap modification to an existing weapon.
NOTE: Personally this has been a rough call for me as I try to balance "canon" with what games like SFB and FC present us. I figure it wasn't until late TOS that encounters with races like the Kizinty (Mirak SFC) begin to occur in a more serious nature and point defense becomes a serious thing. Again, this may not jive with SFB but in balance with canon (seen on TV) we never see the TOS Enterprise deal with missiles or fighters. So I have moved this idea to more of the TMP era.
MRCAcct, Thank you for pointing that out as I see it could be an eyebrow raiser.
If you have a better idea of how you think this should be represented please let me know.
Before the Federation

The Intrepids held down the fort while the Enterprise class ships explored, and stirred up trouble.
Just as the Kinshaya are savage in close combat, so built are their starships. Klingons learned the value of hit 'n run and stand off combat when facing the "Demon" spheres because of the Kinshaya's poor accuracy. This would be somewhat solved in later Kinshaya ships but even so they always prefer it close and brutal.
Reworking from play testing... Will be re-posted soon!
A good race for beginners as their ships can take a beating and will always have multiple weapons bearing on the enemy no matter your facing. Get close and roll well and your victory will be swift.
This is an example of what I meant when I said all the powers will be represented. A race that can give a Klingon nightmares is worthy of representation!
Next up I will throw something in from a different time period.
Ah ok. I just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing something.
Is there a more active Starmada forum? I think this is a great game and I thought it was popular (maybe I am wrong). :?
This place seems to be relatively dead. Is there a more active place that I am not aware of to talk about Starmada?
I have more play testing to do this week. More to come this weekend. If anyone notices any errors or has questions please ask.
The D7 was never a direct match for the Constitution but two would be easily fatal for the Conny, and three? Well that's Kobayashi Maru

Universal Conflict is coming...
A Star Trek ship list for Starmada Unity
All the major powers of the prime timeline, books and the various games are coming.
Universal Conflict - Star Trek is not trying to recreate any other previous game system in Starmada Unity. UC-ST goal is to bring all the Star Trek ships in the lore and present them in a reasonable and logical way in the Starmada system.
First packs are out!
Federation 1st edition
Klingon 1st edition
Get them in The Bourbaki Basin section here:

Everything is going great but i cannot figure out how to get the DISPLAY tab to print out side by side, on the same side, of a singe sheet of paper. All it wants to do it throw it into a PDF that is centered on the page. This is a massive waste. I have been through all the options i have in the print screen and nothing. Maybe i am missing something i can do in the editor so when i look at it to print i can see the ship sheets side by side?
