Just to make sure i am playing this right, there is no launch rate for Drone Racks in Nova SFU, right.
I converted a D6D and it has 6 x Drone Racks. I think I can fire them all at the same time, am I right?

I am choosing to buy a Starmada Nova book today. it might or might not be Alien Armada. If the "surprise bonus ships" are cool, I will. Otherwise I will pick up Romulan Armada.
My main question about the surprise ships is if there are Klingon ship in there? And which ones?

Paul:
You solved it. I missed checking the box for directional defenses. Thanks.
Hi:
I am using the Excel ship designer by OldNGrey and want to use it to convert some SFB ships into my game that are not available in the Starmada version. To get to know the Excel sheet, I entered in the values for a Fed CA and CL.
Almost everything was correct except the calculated CRAT, which come out too high. For example: the CA is listed at 321 points in the book, but the software calculates it as 345 points. Likewise, the Fed CL is 243 in the book, but 263 in the software.
Any ideas what may be happening?
Ah, I found it. It is the DNG from R2.
The DN on page 52 of the Klingon Armada Nova book, which is the SFB dreadnought it is based on. Both the DN and DN+ lack the number of drones and marines the Nova DN has. Thanks for helping.
Thanks Paul.
One more thing, each rack can only be fired once, right?
In Klingon Armada: Admiralty Edition, when a Kzinti ship (for example) says Drone (4), does this mean it can shoot one drone flight each turn four times, or it can launch four drone flights per turn?
Thanks, from a noob
The two problems I see in AE for ESGs is there is no range zero, no ways to target it (which is how you buy Area of Affect Weapons), and ending your move within a couple of hexes as hard due to the simultaneous move system. Now the design is making sense.
Just a note: I am really getting into Starmada AE. I have been running a few different games around my town, mostly Star Fleet. So I have been buying the PDFs of rules and ships. So far the conversions are pretty well done... until I got Distant Armada.
I am a big Cat fan in Star Fleet and was really excited about setting up a Kzinti/Lyran face off. That attitude changed when i got the book and found the ESG is a defense only weapon. I was expecting some kind of weapon like in Federation Commander, but this is a real disappointment. Not much else to say except now I need to crack open the book and make my own version.
On the plus side... Hellbores work pretty cool!
I am not sure about your shield rules, as they may slow things down a bit. I'm just going to go with the regular Starmada Nova shields and use Directional Defenses.
However, you did remind me that the Disruptors need an upgrade, the B-Refit would extend reach in Starmada. Probably before the B-Refit I would reduce the range of the disruptor to range 15 (6 overloaded), and then use the range 18/9 disruptor for the B-Refit.
I think we may be talking different games. Are you talking Admiralty edition. Cuz I am talking Nova Edition.
I am doing my own version of the SFU conversions for my own use, but want some advice. I own the Nova editions of Starmada and Klingon Armada and very much like the systems and the work done. I want just a little more.
One of the strengths of SFB is the roll of years. A Y175 ship is far different from a Y160 ship. The advancement of tech is fun in campaign games.
Here is what I've done do far, for Feds only (others to be worked on after this).
*Eras: These are based on SFB's refits. Each era provide additional weapons or upgrade other systems.
* Weapons: I use Starmada Nova SFU values for these, though possibly not drones (see below).
*Thrust: Thrust is based on the Starmada Nova conversion of the ship.
Now here is what i am thinking to make this work:
1. Drones need to be remade for the refit level to represent faster/heavier drones. Most wepons in SFU do not get better over the years, but drone make a marked improvement. Should the conversion in the Nova SFU be the medium-speed eras version, with a less powerful for the slow era and a more powerful version for the fast era?
2. Shields use the standard Starmada shield rules, not the shields as armor rules from Starmada Nova SFU. I figure they should be 4-6 before the CAR refit, 3-6 after (and it would be directional).
3. I was thinking of reducing the thrust by one overall, then adding +1 thrust for the APR upgrade, and one more for the AWR upgrade, based on the fact more power is available for speed and shooting.
Anyways, these are first ideas. Any thoughts?
