Okay, thanks for the reply. It does mean all ships with AEGIS in my supplements are in error. Oh well.

The way I resolved AEGIS Fire Control was having the PDS, Tractor Beams and Defensive SU calculations have a potential doubling if AEGIS was selected. Thus, for a (CRB) range 1 weapon with 1x2+/1/1 and defensive, it would be 2 SUs as standard, 3SUs with AEGIS (due to the 1SU Defensive calculation). Then the ORAT takes the final SU total and runs it through.

Is there anything you can see there that makes it incorrect? I followed the RA process, as much as I can tell, so it's annoying my Shipbuilder is wrong...

EDIT: Due to this message, unless anyone says otherwise, I am going to delete all my supplements in the Basin in a week's time.

Is there any way people can help me figure out where I've gone wrong? At the moment I'm starting to feel depressed again.

As I haven't received any answer to my questions regarding my Shipbuilder, which I need answered before I can do any further work on supplements, I'm going to ask them again:

1) WRT the FT supplement, two fleets seem to have been designed with different figures for PDS and AEGIS Fire Control. Can anyone confirm or deny this, please?

2) I noticed a discrepancy between my Shipbuilder and Drydock when AEGIS Fire Control is applied. Can anyone figure out where I have gone wrong and, if I haven't, where the Drydock is wrong?

Again, please, I really need the second question at least answered so I can get back to work on any potential future supplements. At the moment I can't progress any further with my work which is leaving me with too much time on my hands and, with Lockdown 2: Electric Boogaloo in progress, I need something to do.

Hi all.

Yesterday I was able to get to the library and upload all my work from the last few months. However, while quickly double-checking both I noticed a difference concerning AEGIS Fire Control.

A ship with the same weapons, etc calc'd the same in both, until AEGIS was added. Then, my ship went over by quite a way, and the CRat was ~25 lower.

At time of writing, the Shipbuilder is v1.44 and the Drydock's last date of modification read (IIRC) 2020-09-04. If I can get back to the library (potential second lockdown) I'll be able to check the differences myself, but can someone else do some checking?

Thanks in advance

After a few months' work and waiting, here are four Uplift-Exile supplements plus the guidelines I used. All ships were built using my own Shipbuilder.

Fair enough. Did you see my post regarding the SUE:FT ships? Specifically, the post about potential CRat calculation differences? It seems one or two factions were using the FT figures for PDS and the others the RA figures

Would it be allowed to increase the MA of ROF-1 Evaporating Seekers? I'm thinking of a setting with short ranges where the longest-ranged batteries represent either missiles or fighter strikes, and need slightly more range than 12 :-)

(0 replies, posted in Starmada)

A week or so ago I was working on a concept based on the SUE:FT sourcebook: namely, design ships in FT and then do a conversion. As a result of this I decided to check the ships in the sourcebook with my Shipbuilder (both to check the Shipbuilder and give me a run-through for my potential setting).

Unfortunately, it seems that the ships were designed with different design rules--the FSE and, possibly NSL, were designed with PDS having an ORat based on engine speed, while the NAC and ESU seem to have the flat-rate ORat found in SUE:RA. This also affects the AEGIS Fire Control equipment, as in the Annex it relies on the PDS, Tractor Beam and Defensive weapons, whereas in the sourcebook it assigns a flat SU for each Class-1 and PDS on-board a ship.

With the figures in the Annex, the FSE Charlemagne and both Affondatore variants are anywhere from 15 to 25 VPs low, and the NSL Danzig is 10 VPs low. Some other ships do have differing VP totals, but only by 5 VPs which I assume is probably rounding differences. I haven't done an exhaustive comparison, but thought it'd be a good idea to let you know of my early findings.

Excellent on the first point, relief on the second :-)

The first b/c that makes a potential Voidstriker to SUE conversion easier to work out (in that set of rules were Projectile weapons that could be shot down--making those weapons Evp Seekers allows them to be engaged by PD without having the weird sight of railgun shells chasing their target around the map. Of course, it might need a slight increase to the maximum range for Seekers...

The second b/c one faction in my Uplift-Exile setting used multi-weapon mounts for Seekers, and I didn't want to have to redesign them...

68

(4 replies, posted in Starmada)

Thanks! That's good to know...

EDIT: sorry, had another (couple of) question(s). Am I right in assuming that a seeker flight with a ROF of 1 and the Evp trait disappears after one turn? And, semi-related, can seekers use Multi-Weapon Mounts?

69

(4 replies, posted in Starmada)

Three things: a confirmation question, and 2 questions:

First, am I right in assuming that a hull 2 vessel gives 30% of its CR on the first hull hit, and a hull 3 vessel gives 30% on the first hull hit and 20% on the second, while hull 4 and above has the 10/20/20 split as described in E.4 Partial Victory Points?

Second, (mainly b/c I've been burned before with Bulkheads) do Bulkheads count as Hull for Partial VP awards? If a Hull 1 vessel with 1 Bulkhead got hit, would it award VPs as a Hull-2 vessel? I can read it either way...

Third, marines. Is the 'launch limit' for marines based on the carrying vessel or the defending vessel? Again, as with the Bulkhead/Partial VP interaction, I can read it either way.

Thanks in advance for your reply

A combination of two reasons: one thematic, one laziness. The first is that Acr would be for the light AA batteries on warships in the Second World War--batteries that have very fast training and elevation gear. Standard Elevation would be for 4-6in DP batteries--those with good elevation gear but not so quick as to really keep track of enemy aircraft.

The Limited Elevation traits would consequently be for heavy anti-ship batteries (8in or larger) and No Elevation would be for equivalent pre-dreadnought, ironclad or even age-of-sail warships (I can't see a 32lb cannon being wheeled around to engage a torpedo- or dive-bomber...)

I would also say that Gravity-Fed would only be used for level-flight bombers, would have very limited range and would be scenario-driven--but I've got to try and think of every eventuality...

The second reason, laziness, is mainly because I'm thinking of inserting the Elevation traits into my Shipbuilder in the first Post-Defensive slot, but I guess inserting the Elevation traits into the standard traits would work as well. It'll mean additional work, but I'm not going anywhere...:-)

71

Okay, I didn't realise they were that bad...:-)

Okay, I'm guessing either there's nothing wrong with this, or it's so broken that it's not even worth replying to.

Hi all.

Ever since I finished work on the TNBL supplement I've been working on other things to burn off excess creative energy. One thing is a reprise of my TGoTC and Playground supplements, specifically a combined air/land/sea supplement.

Now, one thing that has made it more challenging is the change in Three-Dimensional rules, but I'm hoping that a setting rule re-introducing the SAE/SNE version of those rules will be acceptable.

Another is that I want to restrict some weapons' arcs of fire in a 3D environment. With that, here are four traits for this sort of setting. Each weapon in this supplement must have one trait of the five. Feedback welcome (indeed, needed)

Standard Elevation (SEl)

A weapon with the SEl trait may engage any target within range.

Modifier x1.0

Limited Elevation-1/2 (LE1/LE2)

A weapon with the Limited Elevation-1 trait may not engage a target whose difference in elevation is equal to or greater than the distance on the board.

Modifier: x0.7 (but see below)

A weapon with the Limited Elevation-2 trait may not engage a target whose difference in elevation, times TWO, is equal to or greater than the distance on the board.

Modifier: x0.5 (but see below)

Example: a ship at elevation 2 is targeting a ship 3 hexes away and at elevation 4. With a SEl or LE1 weapon, this is possible, but for a LE2 weapon, this is not (elevation difference: 2, x2 = 4, greater than 3). If the target was only 2 hexes away, only a SEl weapon could target it.

Gravity-Fed (GFd)

A weapon with the Gravity-Fed trait may only engage a target on the lowest level.

Modifier: x0.3

This trait is only for bombs and bomb-like batteries

In this supplement, the Acr trait automatically confers the Standard Elevation trait

EDIT: I forgot about another trait I was thinking about--a No Elevation (NEl) trait which can only engage targets on the same level. This would primarily be for torpedoes.

The values would be:
LE1: x0.8
LE2: x0.6
NEl: x0.5

I present, to you, the Warband Council of Scylla!

Warband Council of Scylla

This power is based on my previous attempt for the Design Challenge called the Empire of Charybdis, based on the fact they used the Customised Range Bands, or CRB. They might see the light of day, but here's the Warband Council of Scylla. I'll let you work out why I gave this faction that name...

A note: based on the Simple Ship Design thread last year (or maybe 2018) I was going to cap shields at 3, but decided to have the largest unit have shields 4.

Because I'm typing this out by hand by translating it from my Shipbuilder, I'm not going to insert the Faction name for each ship. Nor will I include the equipment, trait or munitions lines unless the ship needs them.

There are 25 ships in total. Originally there were 20, but I designed five new vessels when I realised one of the weapons hadn't been used in any designs, and changed it for the particle lance and which could be swapped for the heavy fusion bombard on a 2:1 ratio.
