Perhaps one thing that came up during a game last night (Borg vs. Klingons).

Presently, movement costs for 2 turns or a U-turn are the same. Perhaps it would be possible to reduce the turn cost for 2 turns making them a bit (and only a slight bit) easier.

Something like: The turn cost are the sum of the last turns and half the current turns speed (meanint a engine 6 ship would be able to turn 2 times when flying with speed 4 and is undamaged)

I'm happy so far with Starmada.

Some things which might be added:

- AFB hitting Fighters on 4+ and ships on 5+ & shooting them before fighters may attack.
- some kind of escort trait to grant other ships the afb-dice the ship has

They aren't worth their cost now. Usually, it's either you have too many (enemy does not have any fighters) or you do not have enough and are pointless if the ship dies or is severely damaged in the Fighter Phase before the AFBs get to fire. They are worthless against strikers/seekers.

Ok, we haven't played with striker so far and got the book with the afb-rules one week ago. Ok, then the change would make sense. Perhaps this change would warrent the addition of some kind of "escort-trait", a possibility to grant its afb to other ships within a certain distance?

Concerning the AFB, if a rule ajustment is made, I'm sure it would increase the price of the batteries. So, why not simply making it a pool of dice against fighters in the fighter phase and no longer any use against ships(always thought that such point defense weapons could not damage a cap-ship)?  :?:

FFG lost their licence for At-43 and Co due to shipping/distribution delays and so forth. Same here in Germany happend last year and the distributor also sold off their stock, but not before he destroyed(or more exactly utterly crushed) the gaming community for this games by simply not letting new releases and books come out. So we were here 1 year without any new stuff which killed the games.  :evil:

Ledwedev-class Coalition Stealth Cruiser

Although both Coalition and Alliance possess full cloaking technology the Ledwedev Cruiser is the first ship which can cloak. Fighters on both sides have been using cloaks since the first day of the conflict, the Coalition on Elite Fighter Squadrons and bombers while the Alliance only employed it on the Shade. More designs evolved since these early days but capital ships were until now only able to mask their signature and not to become completely invisible both to sensors and the human eye. The Ledwedev-Class can both, although it comes at a cost. Its shields are only on par with most destroyers making it extremely vulnerable when spotted and due to high power requirements of the cloaking device only standard and heavy Meson Cannons could be implemented. A rapid fire Cap-Missile Launcher tries to compensate for this but with a limited payload this is questionable. Its main batteries are also only able to fire at mid range although this wasn't seen as a problem during the design process as the cruiser is intended as Strike Cruiser/Raider behind enemy lines. It is to be seen if the Ledwedev-Class is only proof of concept or a forbearer for new ship classes using cloaking technology as standard. Only few ships of this class exist and only one has been lost to the Alliance until now. What reaction the Alliance may come up with is not know by now. But rumours circulate about an own stealth project for a dreadnought/carrier as mobile command centre undetected in Coalition space.

As I said, it's sat in a possible future of the univers taking the surprise attack as "mark zero" for full blown war. I'm still thinking on giving the Coalition some "stealth cruisers" as some fighters in the original game already possessed a cloaking device.

I hope some here still remeber Starlancer, a spin off to the Wing Commander game line. Althought it wasn't as good as its parent game, the setting was quite interesting. I'm presently thinking of one thing. How would the have progressed? At the end, the Alliance and Coalition are on an equal level. As per Freelancer, the Sleeper Ships have already been started due to the surprise attack of the Coalition and are out of the picture.
What would the situation be in, let us say 25 years? Would the full scale war have deteriorated into a cold war or would it still be hot?

My personal opinion is that the latter would have occured.

Ah, and one last thing I have mention. Although most ships list a carrier score, only ones whose name includes "Carrier" may carry any fighters. All other ships must choose Strikers or Seekers form the torpedo.pfd
(my idea to reflect the heavy use ot torpedoes in this setting)

What happened here?  :shock:

Just one week out of service and threat grows larger. I played both editions of B5, the skirmish variant (B5W) as well as ActA but found neither of them 100 % to my taste. What I liked about ActA were larger fleet actions in comparison to 1 to 2 ships in Wars. But that's just my taste.

I'll see how the first few games will turn out and then perhaps adjust the ships a bit.

I'll try. By now, I figured out that after editing the shipbuilder myself it somehow calculated the point costs wrong. So I now have to double check all point  costs.

G'Quan, Omega and Primus were all about the same size in B5W, so I simply added armoured hull to make the G'Quan outstanding.

Is there any way to upload pdfs for free somewhere. I already have some data cards (round about 40) for various races and ships.

Also, I presently planning on upgrading the Narn a bit. 6 Range on the light Ion Cannons after now reading through them again seems to be a too big disadvantage as they are their secondary weapons.

Stay tuned for the Vorlon and Shadow fleets.  :wink:

Hi everyone. I recently got my hands on a copy of Starmada and am very impressed.

I played spaced combat games before, but both using a license (B5 to be exact) but never was quite happy with both incarnations. The first was a bit too complex while the 2nd has some balance and game issues.

After reading the rules Starmada seems to solve both problems, beeing quite easy but well balanced.

So, I started converting the ships of most races to Starmada format.
