Topic: KRYOMEK(TM) again
Heh heh heh. I now have the Kryomek(TM) rulebook (but no templates, I got it 2nd hand, cheap).
Thoughts: in the rulebook I have, no expansion, humans all have the same armour rating, and it is worse than any of the Kryomek(TM) units. Unlike the BioTech Genre Rules, Kryomek(TM) use a variety of weird tech which is either biological OR seamlessly integrated with their biology and which is the equal of early nanotech or advanced cyberwear technology levels. I may have to rework some of my preliminary ideas now that I know they are by no means "just advanced bugs". However, to reflect the havoc wreaked on close-ranked Hellions by AOE weapons in the original game, I might just consider them to be SI anyway.
Kryomek(TM) and human squad coherency is very strict, I think I'll ignore that. Ranges are all fairly short, most infantry weaponry falling into a 12-24 inch bracket. I will expand Kryomek(TM) weapon choices and functionality a little to compensate for the much lower target density and engagement ranges in DVG.
Hellions should be perfect for the Mob Option, and have an analogous rule.
Kryomek(TM) unit sizes are 6, 3, 1, and human units are 5 to a squad. Now I think that for DVG I can just double the 6 and the 5 giving humans basic squad size of ten and Kryomek(TM) 12. Warriors fight in 3s so they'll be Linked, which is perfect both in fitting the original intent and in fitting a squad size of 12 (I might settle for 9 but with the neotech option I should be able to spare the SR needed).
Humans with dual weapons get a bonus not too dissimilar to the overall effect of "extra weapons training" so that's a nice fit.
Humans deploy massed neuro-jacked penal troops. I think they need to be "matrix" both for the minimum requirement (ie Neotech) and because the chagrin described in the fluff when a man's conscious mind wants to flee but all his instincts (thanks to his neural wetware) are telling him to kill, fight, maim! would be very similar to "Communications breakdown".
Kryomek(TM) units are fearless but can get out of control and in the case of Hellions go rampaging. I think the best option is to give them the Group Selection morale rules even though the Hellions will likely be Matrix (for the purposes of enforcing a minimum deployment, but also for fearlessness). OTOH why bother if it won't effect the one unit that needs it?
Hellions get no ranged weapons. At all. I might have to fudge this. Demian? Can an army survive if 20-30% of its forces don't have guns??
