Have you noticed that when you divide the SU by the Tech mod for the ORAT ie cell G20. This is using a SU which has been Rounded up instead of the basic total SU?

Yes. And I'm okay with that. smile

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Ok Ta.

Could you please give some idea of the thought behind Ammo?

Perhaps if the weapons were treated as launchers instead of individual weapons?

Maybe one calc for the shots based on the basic SU (number x a percentage?) x Another for the number of launchers and arcs?

Just a thought.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Not sure what you mean by "the thought behind Ammo"...

My intent was to mimic the values from Starmada X: i.e. an expendable weapon takes up 20% of the space of a normal weapon, with a scalable divisor for the ORAT calculation.

Unfortunately, the equation I put in the sourcebook doesn't do what I thought it would. I'm pretty sure the revised one does...

Yup, Thanks

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Hello everyone!

I Noticed that the newer SAE Ship designer version 2.0 has Point Defense and AntiFighterBatteries as Special Equiptment options.
Does the Point Defense exist in SAE?  And if it does, does it block all IMP rolls of 1,3,5 as it did in Starmada"X"?  Can it be combined with shields, or screens?
Do AntiFighterBatteries exist in SAE?  Do they work as they did  in Starmada"X"?  I guess that if they did, and a 1 was rolled, and if the fighter had shields (whew!), that the AFB hit would have to penetrate the shields of the fighter in order to destroy it. (?)
Or is the presense of AFB & PDS in the new v2.0 a misprint?

Confused in Jacksonville, Fla, USA  :?

Both Anti-Fighter Batteries and Point Defense are part of the ISS book released.  No...neither works the same as it did in Starmada:X. smile

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Excellent!
I ordered a book copy of the ISS Book several days ago.
But, I wanted to know about AFBs and PDS, so I have just ordered, and downloaded the PDF version of these ISS rules.
I am printing them out now   big_smile

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

One of the points of Drake notation was to be able to cut and paste the text into other documents (e.g., email messages). This doesn't work at present, because the text is spread across multiple cells.

Can we get it all in one cell in the future?

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

I just tested both the Shipbuilder and the Shipyard.

It is possible to cut and paste all of the text in one go by selecting all of the text cells at the same time.
ie
Type: Her Maj's Space Sphere Bedford, Cavor Class, Imperial England Space Ball  (9)
Hull: 1
Engines: [TL0] 2
Weapons
Battery X:   Elephant Gun (K) TL0 [1/2/3, 5+, ROF:1 IMP:1 DMG:1, Non–Piercing ] Ammo:(4)
ABCDEF
Special Equipment
Armor Plating  Cargo (10) :
Weapons :1[X], 2[X], 3[X], 4[X], 5[X], 6[X]

OK, I left some space to tidy up the text On the Shipyard sheet before printing or transferring as a block of text. However, this was all cut and pasted into notepad in one go.

Putting it all into one cell is thankfully not needed. It would be a hell of a job to sort out if changes were needed.

Answer to your question: no. Excel won't allow automatic line breaks within a single cell.

But I'm not sure it's a problem. If you select all the cells, copy, and then paste into a text document, you should get one line per cell.

Okay, I guess I just pasted into an application that was "too smart" (Apple's Pages word processor) which reproduced the table. It works if I paste into something like Emacs.

You mention the Shipyard. Where do I find this? I only see the Shipbuilder on the MJ12 Starmada page.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

course if you use emacs, then you'll have to press ctrl-dash-p-slash-shebang-f4.

but I'm a vi guy myself smile

The Shipyard can be found at:

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Hello everyone!

The mj12games Shipbuilder is great.  8)
If there is a newer edition or revision made, could the range bands be added  in, as they were in the Starmada Compendium and Starmada X Shipbuilders?  This would make it easier for new players to use.  Also, if this is done, could "---" be placed in the long range block for weapons with Caronade and "---" be placed in the block for short range for weapons with minimum range.
This will make it easier for all players, (including 100% Blonds such as me...)

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Dan,

I think that I found an error with the shipbuilder.  I was playing around with it today and I noticed that if you set the acc on Battery Z at 4+ and chose the anti-fighter special ability it doesn't affect the final su cost.

I can't replicate the error... :?:

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Never mind, I figured it out.  At short range the modifier doesn't change anything.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Some weapon traits (i.e., Piercing, Anti-Fighter Batteries) at some ranges (e.g., 3,15,18,24)  changes the ORAT, and CRAT, when you change the Weapons Tech Level.

I'm not sure I understand the problem. Weapon traits SHOULD affect the ORAT... ?

Changing the tech level of weapons changes the ORAT, but only when certain traits and certain ranges are selected.  I mostly checked going from TL 0 to TL +1 or +2.  I put in a negative tech only once and nothing changed.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Hi,

Yesterday I was trying to create a hull size 2 ship with ammo.  When this happened the ORAT and CRAT when to N/A.  By investigating the formula I see that your hull sizes listed in M8:M12 are 3, 8, 15, 24, 35.  The vlookup you have in the formula currently rounds down so by using 3 as the lowest number hull size 1 and 2 ships error out.  Due to the rounding down I think you want to change the cells to 1, 4, 9 , 16, 25.  This should return the correct value that matches the ISS manual.

Regards,
Demster

Not only this, but the whole ammo calculation was wrong...

I've fixed it, and uploaded v2.1 to the web site.

How much of a change are we talking about?

There might be a rounding issue, since you round off the weapon SU costs, but then divide by the TL modifier when determining the ORAT.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Okay,
I realise this might make me seem sharp as butter, but for the past few days I've been trying to figure out where in the shipbuilder I'm supposed to design the fighters, strikers and seekers.

I downloaded the shipbuilder from the Starmada website. Do I need to register to the Yahoo list to get a different one?

Thanks.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

There is currently no option on the official shipbuilder to design fighters/strikers/etc.
