Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder
I e-mailed RPGNow, and they said they haven't received an update from the publisher.

I'm in the middle of trying to figure out why the revised version isn't showing up on RPGNow.
However, suffice it to say that the changes to Revision 1.0 are minimal:
REVISION 1.0
January 2008
Changed capacity requirement of boarding pods to 16 (option B.7: Marines).
Changed ORAT of teleporters to 10 (option B.7: Marines).
Changed “area effect” modifier to ×2.0; “doubled range modifiers” modifier to ×1.0; and “piercing” modifier to ×1.4 (option C.4: Weapon Traits).
Removed sample starship data cards.
Since discussing errata;
Dan, I've turned the book inside out and can't find where it references how to determine screens vs shields in the construction section. Page 40 is the only reference and there's nothing there, just a two paragraph explaination. I hope I'm not just being blind.... :?

Hmmm...
I'm not sure I understand your question, but it looks as though all the information necessary to construct a ship with screens instead of shields is there. Ships cannot have both (p. 40, third paragraph).
Have you had your eyes checked recently?

derr...it continues on page 41. Swore it looked like a different section. *sigh*
No...though I am considering gettin my eyes checked lately. Also finding I've become a lot more dyslexic in the last year or so...*sigh*

This may be the problem you are currently addressing.
I received an e-mail from RPGNow saying that I'm entitled to a free download copy of Starmada: The Admiralty Edition Core Rulebook, and it included a coupon code so that I wouldn't be charged.
I just downloaded it, and I see that it is still version 0.0, December 2007. Just in case it was simply an error on the revision date, I checked a couple of items you listed as having been changed in the new edition. The items still are from the old edition.
Would it be possible to add a "notes" section to the worksheet to add to the bottom of the Special box... for such things as listing the standard compliment of fighters, seekers, misc notes, etc?
edit: Nevermind, I figured out how to customize it to make it do what I want.
The ship builder appears to restrict hull sizes to 24. However, the table in rule F.4 Launch & Recovery appears to allows hull sizes 25 and above. Is hull size 24 meant to be the actual limit?
It always amazes me when players want to go BIGGER... I find ships greater than 12-15 hull are just no fun to play with... *shrug*
Anyway, there is no intended upper limit. The restriction on the shipbuilder is arbitrary.
Okay, I'll make my ships smaller. It's not a big deal. I just thought there was an inconsistency between the ship builder putting the max at 24 while the particular rule I cited includes 25 and above.
Tried out the SAE Shipbuilder v2.2 dated 24 Apr08 from:
mj12games.com/starmada/shipbuilder.xlt
Weapons still getting hit twice by the TL mod. Increased Impact still listed as Increased Damage. Any chance we'll see the cool doo-dads from ISS, Dreadnoughts, H&C, etc. added for v2.3?

Dan,
question about revision numbers. I see people that say they have one version, but there is another version newer. How do you get those? Does your site have funciton that if you buy a version and it gets updated, you can get the newer version?
Does this apply to all the Starmada products?
If you've bought the PDF, you have the most up-to-date version of the rules -- unless you selected the "do not receive update notices" option at RPGNow.com.
Is buying the pdf from your site the same??
Is buying the pdf from your site the same??
Practically speaking, yes. There have been no updates to the PDFs since we started selling direct from mj12games.com.
If you a second, what are the latest revision numbers for the SA products? I want to compare the core rulebook, Hammer & Claw, etc...to the print versions I have to see if I should invest in the pdf versions.
Would it be possible to find a way to list the revisions numbers along with the titles of each product on your store? If the revisions were extensive enough, I would look at the copies I have and pay for another round to get the latest revisions from time to time.
If you buy the print versions, you get the latest printings/revisions (meaning they just don't have them lying around, they have to print them)?
sorry for all the questions.

SAE Rulebook: Revision 2
Imperial Starmada Sourcebook: Revision 1
Hammer & Claw: Revision 0
Dreadnoughts: Revision 0
Iron Stars: Revision 0

I currently have hard copies, bought via mj12games online:
SAE Rulebook: Revision: 0/0
Imperial Starmada Sourcebook: Revision 0/0
Hammer & Claw: "original version"
Iron Stars: "original version"
If I order from mj12games or rpg.now, either print or pdf, would I get R2 of SAE and R1 of ISS?

Yes.
I'd prefer you ordered from mj12games.com ...
SAE Revision 2?
The version at RPGNow.com still shows as Revision 1.0 January 2008 on pages 2 & 10.

Huh. I guess I never actually made the update. Don't worry -- I've checked the files on mj12games.com and at our print-on-demand site; nobody's got revision 2, except me on my hard drive.
The only change was to add the following paragraph under section B.3: Cloaking Device:
A cloaked ship may not be attacked by opposing weapons and/or fighter flights (even those with the “Area Effect” trait; see option C.4: Weapon Traits) unless it has been detected (see below). However, a cloaked ship is subject to other forms of damage, such as from minefields (see option B.8: Mines).
Does mj12games.com send you updates when a new revision comes out? Someone had said if you buy version 1.x from RPG now, then version 1.1 comes out, you get to get one download of it for free. Is that true?? That said, if you have the same thing, I will ALWAYS buy them from mj12games....
...if you don't, would you consider just posting an official sticky or something that always had listed what the latest revisions are and then lists the changes in that revision, thus you would not need to redownload the entire product. Then, you could just print those and add it to your book, binder, or whatever. I would prefer giving the money to directly to you!

I was over at RPG now, where do you see what revision it is, does it list it before you download it??

Thanks Dan, I have added the paragraph to my print.

No it just shows Starmada AE, but if you log in on RPGNow and go to your account, there is an option to see if any pdf's you bought have been updated since your last download. (Just in case you may have missed any update notification.)

Dan, When will 2.0 be able to be downloaded as a PDF from your site, Rpg now, and hard copy?
I plan on getting new copies at that point. Does mj12games have the same feature to get a newer copy when updated?.
