Re: Make a Defiance Army

Defiance army of the week:
http://herosgames.homestead.com/files/PDF.pdf

PDF list is designed for use with the very-soon-to-be-available Rackham's AT-43 human minis (the "xenoc aggressor" AKA Therians are probably the army of the next week tongue). Just in case somebody's looking for a more, well, advanced ruleset to use them with than what comes with the minis themselves.

However, it's attempting to be pretty generic and doesn't even use any fluff that could fall under a copyright (apart from mine, obviously) AFAICT...

Re: Make a Defiance Army

Just so you know, I'm now up to four army lists in states of utter disarray but  fully costed etc. I just keep reworkin' 'em. But I thought I'd mention that one is a particularly perverse attempt to design something very different to my usual legions of Steel derived stuff. I've deliberately gone against my owwn aversion to Elites, for example.

Anyway, it needs only a few miniatures to complete, and to straighten out the fluff. If you've ever wondered what happens when a box of Dark Eldar Warriors, a bunch of Reaper Miniatures Elves, two Eldar Grav Tanks, a resin 28mm scale Dictator (based on Reaper's 10mm scale CAV mecha game), and a hodgepodge of Kryomek all band together in the service of Evil, this will be the list for you.

Re: Make a Defiance Army

I've got a 'bigtator', always thought it'd make a good mecha for an army of Urban War Viridians (with Rezolution 'peacekeeper' elite power armoured troops).

Re: Make a Defiance Army

I like some of the AT-43 humans; generic enough to stand in for a variety of forces, but also with a bit of style...still, need to wait to see how the factory paint jobs will look.

wreckage: now *that* sounds like an interesting army.

Re: Make a Defiance Army

Not as good as the real thing obviously, but the Damocles box page
http://www.at-43.com/game_support.php?lg=EN
on the AT-43 official site shows pix of the factory paintjobs.

Re: Make a Defiance Army

And the army of the week is...
http://herosgames.homestead.com/files/Xenocs.pdf

After printing that and the PDF list from last week, you can pop the Damocles box open and go at it not only without minis assembly (well, much assembly) and painting, but also without the need of learning a new set of rules

Re: Make a Defiance Army

Made a couple of small edits to the PDF list (http://herosgames.homestead.com/files/PDF.pdf). It now allows you to field the up-and-coming Karmans from AT-43 as uplifted gorillas (they do look like gorillas, really!) as well as humans.

Also added an option to field uplifted canines. Suchlike aren't in the game, at least not yet, but I since all the apes can now come out and play I though the dog oughta get their chance to serve too wink

Re: Make a Defiance Army

The list looks great, tnjrp.  Plus, I love anything canine.  big_smile

Re: Make a Defiance Army

OKAY!

UNE army list has been finalised after much agony and several total reworkings. I really think this one captures a decent cross-section of the UNE, with particular reference to high morale troops, plenty of heavy powered armour, and some pretty big guns. In addition, many of the core troops are available from Amazon Miniatures UK.

Now, how do I upload it??

OH! OH! OH!

Send it to me!  Send it to me!

I'm a HUGE UNE fan.

Re: Make a Defiance Army

Well, I managed to work in most weapons suites, PI, Assault Troopers, HAT/ASP, Commandos, Recce Commandos, Recce Troopers. I added a "PI support" frame to kinda-sorta carry the weapons associated with the HQ section and bring the Calliope and Auto-RAM into play as ordinary PI weapons.

I knocked the Calliope back to 2 ammo, both as a legacy of an older version of the list where I was working with different point caps, and because the damn things don't really work all that great so they might as well be cheap.

I up-gunned the Blaster to compensate for the lower availability of attack chits and the lack of auto-fire, and just because I thought UNE Commandos should be scary.

I had to pare back some of the less significant (outdoors) weapons on the standard Behemoth as they were wasting points and frames. I wanted to keep the RXS as infantry, but it wouldn't take much effort to make it AME.

Currently I'm going with a fairly low % Elite (only 25%) relative to Vehicle and Ad-Hoc. I reason the Commandos are mostly underground or committed late... and fairly inflexible. Also: the UNE vehicle I have- the Superfortress- is really pricey and I want to field it pretty much every game wink The high ad-hoc allows for some of the Planetstorm/ LOS flexibility, and I figure the UNE are sort of WW2 Americans, who as far as I understand, showed a remarkable ability to regroup and reform ad-hoc units after bungled drops and heavy casualties.

I've worked in a Ford FAV and have a placeholder for an APC. I think the Pig Iron Ironshield/ Ironstorm might be the only real option considering the size of the later sculpts, which were unabashedly 32mm scale and sometimes hit 40mm.

IIRC you aren't allowed to use any document attachments any more, because the feature was found to be hacker bait. So it's just as with most every forum: you'll need a hosting site for the doc. Justin probably has some bandwidth to let, and if not, I do.

Re: Make a Defiance Army

I was wondering if someone would set up a page for these armies. It would be nice to be able to refer people to it.

Indeed. However, I would be happy to upload it, if you e-mail it to me.

Well, I feel compelled to say it; that the UNE are actually patterned after Korean War/Cold War Era Canadians, (Ref. discussions with the creator and other sources.) but I get your meaning.  smile

Re: Make a Defiance Army

Actually I know that too, JP, but I still felt that there was an overall WW2 influence (just an impression as a reader).

*clears throat* Besides... Americans, Canadians. What's the difference? < / overloud voice >

I also noted with some glee that the ranks and insignia of the UNE were Commonwealth, right? And the "Fantasians" name is an indirect reference to cold war Russians, with their organisation kinda sorta mirroring a particular motorized- or was it motorcycle- division*.

*Militarily illiterate. It could have been a division or pretty much anything other than a squad. I know what a squad is!!

Well, as far as the Planetstorm concept goes, you have definitely got a point there.  Liberating planet by planet has a definite War-in-the-Pacific feel to it, and Canadians were not big players in that theater.

Yeppers.  I also enjoyed the diplomatic way they handled that in the fluff text too.  words to the effect of: 'Because a majority of the planet had been under the British rule at one point or another, that the insignia would be the most commonly recognized version for a new united planetary army.'

And the "Fantasians" name is an indirect reference to cold war Russians, with their organisation kinda sorta mirroring a particular motorized- or was it motorcycle- division*.

Yeah, the term 'Fantasian' was used to denote our adversary in any military training we did during the Cold War... we all knew it was really the Soviet Union, but it wasn't polite to practice going to war against an actual country we weren't actually at war with.

The 'MRR' Motor Rifle Regiment was the standard Soviet combat unit.  Motor referring to the fact that the infantry were motorized...meaning the rifle infantry didn't walk to battle.

All in all, that's why I love the UNE so much.  It's got enough nods to realism, and personal nostalgia to make it a worthwhile force to have, especially with the Fantasians as a counter-point.

I sometimes long for the days when we were prepared to go toe to toe with the big tough bad guys, rather than drive around looking for the third-world-weakling bad guys, and hope not to get unceremoniously blown up by an IED.

Re: Make a Defiance Army

Well it doesn't do much for your warrior pride, but the world has pretended for far too long that shoveling shit was a job you could just ignore. The US and NATO infantry (as well as my own nation's contributed forces) have my profound respect for tackling a grossly inglorious task. EDIT: hat-tip to Poland and all the others who never get on the news, too.

ON topic: UNE list emailed to Dan.

I can set one up, it's not a biggie. In fact, here's a placeholder for one (awaiting the time I can actually spare a few minutes to add content, obviously):

Can't guarantee the site'll hold up under the inevitably humungous barrage of download demands tho

Slow and steady wins the race!

Re: Make a Defiance Army

The page's been updated into a bare-bones version (as opposed to the previous placeholder version):

Re: Make a Defiance Army

Updated my supercallifragilisticexpialidocious D:VG fan site with Smokingwreckage's UNE army list.

Smokingwreckage's LoS Infranite list and Ironchicken's 2 Victorian scifi lists can be now accessed at or via my D:VG fan site. With apologies to the authors for the long publication time.

Re: Make a Defiance Army

After a long hiatus, I finally got around to building and more importantly, publishing another Defiance: Vital Ground army list. This one's inspired by Rackham's AT-43 Red Blok miniatures and other such "neosoviet" minis.

You can find it, as well as a slightly updated Planetary Defence Forces list (them's the megacorporate goons, at least to all the proper colonial socialists) via my DVG site:

Re: Make a Defiance Army

I just found four complete lists in my notebook. However they are in a kind of custom one-of-a-kind shorthand and will take some time to transcribe accurately. Doubtless these are some of the lists I was bragging about at various times from 6 months to 2 years ago...

...well they're real! Like Bigfoot! I shot him and he's in my freezer!
