I know it's supposed to be a standalone product, but is there any chance of a slimmed down version of Romulan Armada being available at a lower price?  I already own Starmada: Admiralty Edition, Rules Annex, and Klingon Armada and would rather pay for just the additions from Romulan Armada instead of paying for the paper the core Starmada rules are printed on.  It's not so much that the price point for Romulan Armada is restrictive, just like to save when I can so I can buy more minis.

While the Yamato wasn't the specific inspiration for the colors I was aiming for an anime-influenced style.  The colors were inspired by a sunset I had the privilege to witness.  It might be the pictures, but the upper is quite blue, not gray at all.

Finished these up today

More pictures at my blog (link in sig below).  I have two carriers and three frigates left for this group.

Another thing to keep in mind is that just because it's in the annexes doesn't mean you have to use it.  I'd talk about with optional rules you want to use and not use.

Yeah, my monthly gaming budget just started sobbing uncontrollably when I saw those. It hasn't stopped yet.

I think there is a PDF available for something like $5 at the Steve Jackson webstore.

I made my own files to print.

Wow, yeah, that'd be a bit restrictive for ordering from ADB.

Just a book.  IIRC, you can buy the Federation Commander mapboards and counters separately from ADB's webstore.

No reloads for drones.

If you fire overloaded Photon Torps you have to wait a turn to fire them in either mode.

This is probably obvious, but if you go the striker horde route, use the Launch Tubes option on the launching vessels.

I think all the most successful commanders are.  In a real battle, the last thing you want is a fair fight.

Agreed.  I bet I'd get a different response if I post that at TMP.  lol

14 stands in all, though I could expand the fighters if I wanted to.

Me either, but I wanted the dark red stripe down the middle without it looking too much like a Republic Cruiser or an Acclamator, so I decided to try the brown.  I'm quite happy with the combo.

Did these up from primer to sealer today.  Finally found a wash I like and could get to behave.  Oh, and they aren't as shiny as they look, the light was a little too close and they were still just a little wet after sealing.

Played a game with the boys tonight, their first time with Starmada.  It was originally going to be myself and my oldest, Michael (13), but my second son, Zachary (10), came down and wanted in on the action.  It was going to be a straight up KA game, Michael with CA and 2 FF myself with a C8.  With Zachary, I didn't have any more KA ship cards printed so he ended up using the basic sample ships (the Victory heavy cruiser and its equivalent battleship).   We also used D.1 (basic movement) to help keep things simple for them.

It was a very close game.  Zachary took out Michaels CA and a FF in the first two rounds destroying more than half the total point value.  The kid had incredibly lucky dice.  I danced out of range for the first three turns taking pot shots with disruptors and in the final two turns launched drones and charged the BB.  The first wave knocked the BB's shield down to 4 which was just enough for me to hurt it good in turn 4 (and get the shields even lower) and the second wave took it to just 3 Hull which was taken care of during the shooting phase.  Unfortunately he knocked out my FP shield and maneuvered his CA to take advantage of it in turn 5 (ok, so I coached him on that one a little bit).  If I hadn't achieved the victory conditions he would've taken me out.  I had but one hull point left.  One more odd damage die for him that turn and it would've been a tie.

Next time I mix KA ships with "regular" Starmada ships I'm going to use the standard faceted shields rule rather than the KA version.  The only reason I didn't go out much earlier was because the C8 has a rather large (comparatively) hull rating.  That BB with 5 shields was a tough nut to crack.  It took two full waves of drones to get the shields down and I got lucky with one of the waves.  I will say, that with those "Proton Missiles", the sample ships can be nasty buggers.

Please forgive the fuzzy pic, but here's my recently completed Centauro-class carrier with a flight each of Mirage and Camerone fighters.  I'm still working on the color scheme for this fleet and will probably revisit this one later to improve the shading.

pin a printed hexsheet with terrain already on it to smallish cork board.  Get some thumbtacks, label 'em, mark which side is front...
