I would also like to point out that the ROF, PEN and DMG doesn't show up if it's 1.

I'd like to see all weapons display the ROF PEN and DMG even if they are 1, i.e.

[a] Tiny Puddly Laser [3/6/9, 4+, 1/1/1]
AB

NOT

[a] Tiny Puddly Laser [3/6/9, 4+]
AB

This is a minor deviation from the Purist view of Drake Notation, but it makes things consistent across the system and may help with importing the weapons later if someone wants to make a text parsing program to do that.

Taltos has one that includes the VBAM stats and the drake notation and is the best so far, I think.

Also, the file upload thing is taken down so I dunno how to get new ships into the basin other than Drake Notation.

I'd say go for the 30 degree arcs.  That makes it easy, and you can use them on any hex row that way.  It's a natural extension in my opinion of the current arcs of fire.

However, It is not a straight halving of the SU, I don't think.

But, because of the hackers, the spreadsheet is only available through the main mj12games page or here:

I'd trade the DRM for repeating any day big_smile

4 basic -2 for long range -1 for fighters +1 for EWS (countering the fighter's -1) = 6.

Righto, my bad, ignore the man behind the curtain

Vote?

Never the intention to make fighters more or less powerful, though the PDS is a neat idea I haven't considered.

See even after 5 years of 2-3 Starmada games a month, I find more things I'd like to try and I realise there's not enough time in the day to try them all.

My position on fighters is this: I saw a campaign game that lasted over a year degenerate into a fight bash. Fighters became, in that game, THE weapon to use in a Starmada game.  You can rest assured that regardless of your defenses, 40 flights of fighters will make a Bad Day(tm) for anyone.

It wasn't till the end that we found the wondrous Sunbursts and I think we'll probably start building the anime spinal mounts, if I have anything to say about it (which I probably don't).

Frankly, I'm sorry I brought it up. Seems to make people a bit twitchy.

Here's the challenge, then: post your best fighter-killer design in the Bourbaki Basin given the current Starmada: X rulesbook. Put your money where your mouth is.

For the record I was not referring to SU cost, but rather CR cost.

or I'm completely insane and have forgotten everything I ever knew about starmada.

Losing the halves shields would help, IMO

We can always house rules that out.

A couple of sunbursts will ruin the day for a stack of 10 or so fighter flights

I'd be surprised to hear anyone say that whose ever fought off 40 fighter flights.

Maybe Noel can tell us what that feels like wink

And they always roll *1* heh.

The only issue I have with the new Compendium of CSP rules is that a flight disengaging from a destroyed ship should take a Hull-sized attack from the explosion.

If any fighters remain after the explosion attack, then they may move into any normally-accesbile adjacent hex. e.g. if the flight is adjacent to two explosions, it must choose one of the non-encumbered hexes.

Don't you think we could "balance" fighters by pricing them higher?

How about 100pts per flight?

Or, better yet, what's the 'value' of a fighter mathematically?

(but don't get rid of the CSP, I like it)

We're hosting a House Concert July 6, from 7pm till 9pm!

I need to drum up 15-20 people or more to come and listen to these guys in my living room!

Who are the Brobdignagian Bards?

http://www.thebards.net

Scottish and Irish folk songs combined with the Lord of the Rings music and a wee bit o'Celtic fun. The Brobdingnagian Bards (pronounced brob-din-nahg-EE-en) are The Original Celtic Renaissance music duo from Austin, Texas. Their unique brand of folk music on the autoharp, recorder, and mandolin has made them one of the most-popular Celtic music groups online where they give away thousands of free Celtic MP3 downloads daily.
The Brobdingnagian Bards perform coast-to-coast, and in a given month might be at a Lord of the Rings Oscar Party, a Celtic festival, or a Science Fiction Convention. However, they are an absolute favorite at Renaissance Faires where they add high-energy and wit to make every show a memorable experience.

First come first served, so if you're free July 6th from 7-9:30, we'd love to have you and a friend or two in our home!

I realize this is short notice, but these guys are great performers and the music they play may not be contemporary, at least it's fun smile

If you can't come, but know someone who might like to, please let others know so we can get the people together. The bards like to have at least 15-20 people 'cause they work better in a crowd that size.

Please call my cell phone or reply to my email if you can come so I know how many chairs to dust off smile All we're asking is a $10 donation from each person to help pay for the Bards' gas, but if you can't do that, that's okay.

BYOB, we'll have some munchies, and light beverages (coke/pepsi/tea/water) but you should eat before the concert.

If you are coming and need directions to my house, I'll send out a link to the list in the next couple of days.

Irreverant Celtic Music, Chips, autoharps, and if I get enough in me, possibly a Callahan playing the Ukulele!

What could be more fun on a Thursday night!

Thanks!

Hmm, a disctinct lack of presence for Starmada in that article.

Does this forecast the demise of the world's greatest spaceship combat system???

enquiring minds desparately need to know.

It's been my expreience that Fighters are devastating on the turn they move into contact.  Therefore, my anti fighter weapons would have to have at least 12 range to be effective. That way they can hit fighters outside the fighters effective range.

I think any solution to this percieved problem should be as flexible as possible. I should be able to design a ship to match the one in my brain.

I like Dan's 1/2 dmg weapons as it requires no changes to the existing system to work and is very elegant.

However, I also like the idea that a DMG 2 weapon kills a heavy fighter flight.

I guess that one will have to be a house rule if I can convince noel to allow it in the Stars Divided campaigns smile

jim

and the battle sattelites, they actually fire during the fighter phase, don't they?  maybe options to build those tougher

although we can fix this also by doubling the cost of the fighters wink

don't forget Sunbursts as valid anti-fighter weapons

they completely destroy an entire flight when they hit, no matter the hevay or not.
