Earth Alliance – The Hyperion Cruiser
The Hyperion was the work horse of the Earth Alliance fleet since the early 23rd century. While slower than most other cruisers, it was able to be upgraded time and time again to keep it current.
Hyperion Alpha Heavy Cruiser (In Service 2216)
A replacement for various older cruiser designs, the Hyperion turned out to be easy to upgrade giving it a long service life. Despite being short-ranged, the medium plasma cannons were considered to be the main weapons.
Originally carrying the Tiger Starfury (Carrier 38, CR 191) they upgraded to the Nova in 2230 (Carrier 44, CR 198), and those still in service got the Aurora in 2244.

Hyperion Gamma Assault Cruiser (In Service 2230)
One of the more common Hyperion variants, the Gamma carries an expanded troop contingent and the craft required to deliver them to a planet or enemy space installation. It was so successful that this model continued in service even after most other Hyperions had been retired.

Hyperion Delta Pulse Cruiser (In Service 2240)
Used to test the new pulse weapons, the Delta is shorter ranged than later Hyperion variants, but some captains preferred the array of the quick firing weapons to the heavy laser cannon.
The Delta originally carried a flight of Nova Starfuries (Carrier 44, CR 215) until receiving the Aurora in 2244.

Hyperion Epsilon Command Cruiser (In Service 2246)
This model was the first of the Hyperions to carry the heavy laser cannon. Used as a fleet command ship, the Epsilon was superseded by more modern command vessels.

Hyperion Theta Heavy Cruiser (In Service 2246)
Considered to be the pinnacle of the Hyperion design and carrying probably as much weaponry as the hull can support, the Theta is the most popular of the Hyperion refits.

Hyperion Zeta Rail Cruiser (In Service 2246)
This was an attempt to recreate the Artemis on a cruiser hull. While slightly more survivable, due to the larger hull, the Hyperion was too slow to effectively bring the rail guns into play.

Hyperion Eta Patrol Cruiser (In Service 2246)
Designed for individual operations rather than fleet actions, the Eta travels around the worlds of the Earth Alliance showing the flag and chasing down raiders. It trades in the older plasma cannons for additional pulse weapons.

Hyperion Lambda Aegis Cruiser (In Service 2257)
Something of an attempt to use some new technologies to make the ultimate anti-fighter cruiser, the Lambda was considered to be a failure.

Hecate Alpha Testbed Cruiser (In Service 2228)
When the Earth Alliance Senate voted against upgrading the Hyperion Alpha with new technology, the military instead created the Hecate to “test new technologies to avoid spending money on dead ends”. Since the Hecate is actually a Hyperion, the military got its upgraded cruisers and once funding was approved they could easily be converted into active service Hyperions.
The Hecate originally carried a single flight of Tiger Starfuries (Carrier 38, CR 193), upgrading to the Nova in 2230 (Carrier 44, CR 201), and eventually to the Aurora in 2244.

Hecate Beta Bolt Cruiser (In Service 2232)
While the Earth Alliance couldn’t initially replicate the Dilgar pulsar technology, they could utilised capture bolters. A single Hyperion/Hecate was built to test the technology. It was considered successful, but the pulse weapons developed after the war were considered superior.
Due to the space required for testing equipment the fighter bay had to be removed. The ship was destroyed during the Earth-Minbari War.
Type: HECATE-class EARTH ALLIANCE BOLT CRUISER (134)
