Been musing on this for a bit.
I know people have been asking for the Ammo trait to return, but could not several weapons in a bank with the Exp trait not be considered ammo?

For example, couldn't a weapon with ABx10 plus Exp represent a single weapon with 10 shots, rather than 10 AB weapons with one shot each?

Looking good.
But...
where...
is....
regeneration? sad

Or am I missing it somewhere?

Rereading the SAE rules, I find the wording for the Fire Linked trait a little confusing.

Suppose I have a weapon with ROF:1, ACC 4+, Imp 1, and Dam 4 with Fire Linked
Suppose I have four of them firing at one target.

If I am reading right, I would roll only 1 die, and if it hit I would cause 4 hits, for a total of 16 damage (assuming I got past the enemys shields).

If I had six weapons, 1 die could cause 6 hits, for potentially 24 damage.

Am I correct in my interpretation?

A: Deluxe hardcover, full color edition of the book.  Maybe even with some new rules options.

B: Supporting line of minis from Shapeways or such.

I wouldnt even know what the production costs of either of those would be.

Oh I have a whole laundry list of things Id like to see.  New weapon traits, new ship traits, new rules options, some kind of campaign system, random scenario generator, perhaps some implementation of "heroic" crew members.

Can we expect any new supplements for Nova that arent SFU related?  I know that thats where the money is, but as a person that just ksnt really interested in the SFU, I felt compelled to ask.

Will we ever see an official return of the Ignores SHields and/or No Hull Damage traits?

I know a bunch of folks probably just groaned, but hear me out.  I know Ignores Shields seemed to have a bad rap in the last edition, but would it really be that much of a "gamebreaker" in Nova, given that ships can now also have Armor and/or ECM as defenses.  In SAE, it pretty much bypassed a ships only defensive capability.  That is no longer necessarily the case in Nova.
And it appears that NHD is very workable with the alternate damage allocation rules.

I ask because these two traits are great or modeling B5 ships (IS for lasers/beam weapons, NHD for Abbai comm disruptors.)

I made some full color hex counters for B5 ships years ago.  Look at the B5wars vault for "color counters by hoopajoob"

If this is the case, though, how is it resolved when you fire only one of your weapons from your Battery, or if they're fired at multiple targets?

In this case you would be using the splitting fire rules that are in the options section of the book.

You seem to play with people who are into making "the winning combination" rather than ships with some sort of concept.  In roleplaying games, this same thing is called "min/maxing"
Try designing a ship that fills a certain niche in the fleet, rather than just trying to find the best bang for your buck.  By this I mean, small fast ships with light weapons to handle escort or antifighter duty, long range battleships for bombardement, quick ships to function as wolfpacks to handle straglers on the field, etc.  Try to design ships as a real world military would.
Our military engineers COULD design a working high altitude stealth bomber with 18 150mm cannons on it, but why would they?

I cant come up with 9 dice either.  If you combine the two CD5 arcs, they become a single CD3 arc.  FX5=2 dice, AX5= 2 dice, and CD3= 4 dice.
So it just changes from (2+2+2+2+2+2) = 12 dice to (2+2+4+2+2)= still 12 dice total.

Shouldnt that be Version 1.1- April 2012 ?  wink

as to why anyone would choose lasers over the pulse gun?
dont forget the laser fires in raking mode, so it can (and probably will) destroy several systems in a single shot.  the pulse gun cant.

Antifighter functioning exactly as in the past versions shouldnt be a problem (ignore the -1 when firing at fighters), but what about antifighter also applying a -1 to attack non fighter ships.  In effect, reversing the normal penalties vs fighters, and making the trait sort of a comprimise between normal attacks/antifighter attacks and the old fighter/starship exclusive traits.

I dont recall seeing an antifighter trait in the rules, did I miss something?
If not, will there ever be one?

If you do this, you might have a problem if you end up with a +1 mod to the attack.
With a bonus, you move to the left and double the listed dice, moving left twice if its a +2.  If you eliminate the leftmost column(s), are you gonna be able to remember what amount to roll if you have a bonus, or are you willing to do the math in the middle of a game to calculate it?

Bought and read, ready for my two cents.
I love it!
In general, it eliminates the four main issues I had with SAE:
1) the "cascading dice/multiple rolling" aspect of resolving weapons fire
2) the lack of any sort of ablative defense
3) the rather unintuitive method of determining movement
4) and the way tech levels are handled.

I can really see the influence SFO had on this edition.  My kudos to everyone involved in designing/testing it.

If I may ask, and I apologize if its a bit premature, but what kind of support/sourcebooks can we expect for this edition?

I am working on my own B5 conversion, using the facet rules from the rules annex to represent the ability to intercept incoming shots (which is the primary means of defense in B5)

Just curious, but why the limit of 25 facets?  The reason why I ask is because this eliminates the possibility of a ship with a rating of 5 on each arc (which would be powerful, no doubt, but I have lasers and some other beam weapons with the Ignore Shields ability in the conversion, which mitigates the usefulness of such a ship)

Would a ship with 26-30 facets "break the game" so to speak?

What about a one or two page update or something?

Im interested in new optional/alternate rules to play with, but not so much in the SFB ships or setting.

That FIRST season of Crusade wasnt good.  JMS said he had planned a five year arc for it, just like with B5.  So who knows how it would have turned out if TNT hadnt pulled the plug on it.

Official B5 Starmada stuff?

It would be the fifth version by my counting (AoG's B5 Wars and Fleet Action, Mongoose's ACTA, and the Earthforce Sourcebook for the old B5 RPG, which used the Full Thrust rules to model B5 space combat)

Dunno, Ive always heard (secondhand) that Warner Bros are pretty stingy with that liscense, but then again, I dont think Mongoose was a "rich" company when they got it.

So armor plating lets you ignore a roll of 1 (negates 1/3 of Hull hits and 1/2 of engine hits)

Has there ever been, or has anyone experimented with, options that are the "analog" to this, such as something like "reinforced shielding" (ignores rolls of 3) or "armored weapons"(ignore rolls of 5)???

If so, how did they play?

Ive posted comments on the monitor site, marked it as a good site, with no spy/ad/malware and clean downloads, and pleasant shopping experiences smile

Not much, but maybe it'll help....

Well maybe I should post some comments on the monitor site to try and clear up their confusion.  I would hate for someone visiting MJ12 for the first time turning away because the red caution box made them think they were about to be hacked.
