Is the Nova version of the Drydock still available?

You might want to check out the Calgary Miniature Wargamers Meet-up group

http://www.meetup.com/Calgary-Miniature-Wargamers/

It has just started and it focuses on helping people find opponents for games like Starmada

You should be able to do it in Reader as well. Just save the file using "Save As..." and either flatten it or save it as an older PDF version

Hmm... I remember someone else bringing this up, but then saying the problem had been fixed. I know nothing about the iPad, so I'll need some help on this one.

That was me.

I solved the issue by opening the files in Preview on my Mac and saving them in a different location to make a new version. It flattens the files and then let's you view the files.

The issue is that most publishers are using Adobe tools that export to a version of Postscript that isn't fully supported on the Mac and iOS. OS X and iOS use an open source version of Postscript and the PDF format that Adobe has never updated.

More complex PDFs like the ones from FFG can't be fixed in this way

I would suggest that Daniel have a look at them to perhaps take some ideas from the layout for the official Starmada ship displays

FWIW, I really don't like this style of ship display. *shrug*

The visual display of the weapon arcs is very handy though. Even if the spatial placement of them isn't useful its very nice in a game to look at a hexgrid and see the arcs as opposed to [ACE]

You could always create a custom font to put the hex grids into ship displays

I really like the sample Fed CA. It is a lot easier to use. I like the design in general and I would suggest that Daniel have a look at them to perhaps take some ideas from the layout for the official Starmada ship displays

But I wonder if there is not some copyright as its stats are taken from SFA...?

I don't think you can copyright numbers.

You can always drop Daniel a PM to see what his opinion is though.

Nominations are now open for the 2010 TGN Reader's Choice Awards.

Once again it is time for the 2010 Tabletop Gaming News Reader's Choice Awards. We are soliciting nominations from the TGN readers in six categories:

Sci-fi Miniatures
Fantasy Miniature
Alternative Adventure Miniature
Historical Miniature
Terrain or Accessory
Rules or Expansion

To nominate a figure please post the name, manufacturer and, if possible, a link to the miniature on the manufacturers website. Eligible products are those released from December 1st 2009 to December 1st 2010.

Nominations are open from Sunday December 5th 2010 to Saturday December 11th at 8pm PST. After that we will take the nominees and put them into the first round of voting. Voting will run from Sunday December 12th to Thursday December 16th.

The top five nominees will then be put into a run-off vote to determine the winner.

As we did last year, voting will be open only to registered members of Tabletop Gaming News. It is free to register and we do this to help mitigate the rampant ballot stuffing that has happened in previous years.

Any idea when we will be seeing Lyrans and Hydrans?

I started to do some stats for some of the Separatist ships but the sheer number of weapons, the lack of a proper range of ships and the ridiculous number of weapons that the ships are supposed to carry stopped me in my tracks.

The navies have no real thought given to them.

Do you mean stats?

I found the site on Star Ranger with the new stats but nothing yet for the ScanFed which is what I picked up :-) Guess I'll have to wing it myself when they come in :-)

Are these for the older fleets from the Fleet Books?

I am just getting started using the Starmada rules and I was curious if there were any battle reports or example sections that illustrated the basic rules with some combat examples?

TIA

How difficult is that going to be for a new Starmada player do you think?

I'd love to see PFs as well as the Lyrans and Hydrans. That is really all I'd like to see in the near-term but I have a real fondness for those two races and PFs in general.

Are the Brigade X stats still usable with the Starmada AE rules?
