Has anyone come up with some of the more notorious space monsters from Starfleet Battles for the Admiralty edition? I'm looking for the Space Amoeba, Space Dragon, Planet Killer, and Juggernaut.

How about some top-down counters for various tanks and other vehicles?

I am putting the ships into the Shipbuilder ExelSheet. I'm thinking about going back and knocking out some of the Federation Drones and increasing the Kzinti ones. I'd have to go back to the original Starfleet Battles game to see who gets what.

Another thing I've noticed... and I may have just missed it because all I did was a quick scan of the Romulan Armada rules...

The Plasma Torpedoes are GRADE A NASTY!!!!!!! The seekers by themselves are okay... but the BOLTS!!! Dang!!! I would use the Bolts alone and kick major bullocks!!!! I see the Bolts are "Slow Firing"... Are the launching of the Seeker Plasma Torps also ""Slow Firing"? If not my opponent is going to see a LOT of those suckers on the map flying at them!!! I think the actual launching of the seeker Torps should be "Slow Firing" if they're not already. It takes 3 turns to warm up and fire one of those puppies in the original game.

I found it odd that in the original Starfleet Battles game the Federation didn't sport Drones that often and the Kzinti were king of the Drones.

In Starmada AE the Feds have just as many as the Kzinti. Makes them almost look like you're flying the same ship.

I noticed some of the Plasma Torpedo Arcs for both the Gorn and Romulan seemed kinda odd.

They would be GIK and GJL (?????). I went ahead and changed the GJL to GHJ in the shipyard I'm using.

Thanks for the super fast response, Paul!

Checking it out.

I used to play another game of giant robots kicking the poop out of other giant robots... Battletech. But it got WAYYYYyyyyyy too much stuff attached to it. Too much material. I loved it when it was a simple box set game.

Question is this....

Can those Battle Mechs be translated over to Wardogs pretty readily?

I'd hate to see my Battletech material go to waste.

I've upgraded from the Admiralty edition to the Nova edition. I have the Klingon and Romulan Nova books.

Does anyone know how they went to determining weapon , armor, and shield values from Star Fleet Battles to Starmada Nova?

I guess I'm looking for a type of formula of some sorts.

Here is what I'm trying to do. I have a miniature of the Doomsday Device (aka Planet Killer) and I'd like to be able to look at the SFB version of it and switch it over to the Starmada Nova edition so it would give the SN ships and equal run for their money.

I'd also like to convert SFBs other space creatures over to Starmada Nova.

Are we going to see the Space Monsters from Star Fleet Battles for solitaire play? (in NOVA format)

The Planet Crusher
Space Amoeba
The Moray Eel of Space
The Cosmic Cloud
Sunsnake
The Mind Monster
Space Dragon
The Juggernaut

I'd also buy a scenario book if one was put out.

Please give it a distinctive name so we can know it's for the Nova version.

I just bought the Nova edition of Starmada.

In the Starmada Nova Edition they have a link that takes you to a PDF of additional counters and such as is helpful in the game.

IT LEADS HERE

Which of those PDFs is the one that applies to the Nova Edition?

Yes, a process will be included to "upconvert" existing Admiralty designs.

HooYah!!!!

When I first heard of the new version coming out I was a little apprehensive.

I had just recently gotten into Starmada and a new version coming out already?

But looking over these rules in the pre-release-PDF... all I can say is, "Shiney!"

Are we going to be provided with information to convert older version ships to the newer version? My main thoughts are running toward the conversions of Klingon, Romulan, Alien, etc, Armadas.

Alll at once?

Yep.  big_smile

You could always decide that a hull 24 (for example) is the baddest guy, and work on reverse smaller ships, ending maybe with heavy cruiser with hull 4.

This pretty much mean I'd have to rework the ships with each scenario that involves a different Sci-fi universe being the bigger bad guy. Unless I make all the ships of each universe at the same time.

What I would like to be able to do is to grab a Heavy Cruiser from (maybe) Kilngon Armada and a properly scaled Star Wars Star Destroyer and then have at it!!!

Got a question...

Are we going to have more hull available in this new edition?

I would love to make huge-monstrous-leviathan-type ships.

What comes to mind are things like the Doomsday Machine, Borg cube, Deathstar, etc...

I'd also like to be able to have battles between Star Trek & Battlestar Galactica & Star Wars & Honor Harrington & Starfire & etc...

I've always have felt limited by the lack of the upper hull boxes. This made ships of different sci-fi universes restrictive to the scale of their said universe.

Ooooooo...

Looking forward to this.

Like the posted ship displays.

Sigh... you guys are going to be getting more of my $$$.

I'd like to see a PDF of various terrain features suitable for hex maps.

I realize that this would be difficult because it seems everyone uses different sized hexes on their maps. But could we make different PDFs for the different sizes? A PDF for half inch hexes, one for 1" hexes, etc...

I'd like to get a nice looking image of what would pass as a black hole... in 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 hex sizes. Same with planets, mines, and asteroids.

These would really speed up the game where these terrains are included in the scenario being played.

I would normally try to do this, but my image manipulation skills have a ACC 9999+... and that's at close range!!!!  yikes

You can always try it the way we do our "home" games, jygro.

You can order the Star Fleet Battles hex map and counters.

Counters:

Hex map:

They also have larger hexed maps and counters.

You might want to dig around on their website for more options. They have a load of miniatures too.

I've always wanted to do a game where the Star Trek Federation and Star Wars Empire clash.

I think the Empire would win out... Their ships are just too huge.

Here's a fun YouTube clip about such an encounter...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNxhrPaaCA4

I would normally include damage control in this mini campaign, but left it out of the explanation because I wasn't sure Damage Control was covered in Klingon Armada.

I DO know it's covered in Starmada, but not everybody has that.

In my Star Fleet Battles (SFB) playing days one of my favorite scenarios was the Lone Gray Wolf mini-campaign in the Advanced Missions Rulebook. Here is a rough conversion of the campaign for you space dogs to try out.

Enjoy!

During the General War, the Klingon C8 Dreadnought Admiral Kang traveled deep into Kzinti territory, empowered to negotiate a peace treaty. No one is sure exactly what happened... Kzintis claimed the negotiations broke down... Klingons claimed it was Kzinti treachery... but the result was failed negotiations and a Klingon Dreadnought deep in enemy territory and trying to make it home.

The mini-campaign is played in 6 scenarios. One player commanding the Kang... the other a variety of Kzinti ships struggling to intercept and destroy the Kang.

At the start of each scenario the Kzinti player rolls one die and consults the following table to determine their forces for that scenario.

1 - Kzinti Dreadnought Sabre-tooth
2 - Kzinti Battlecruiser Comet
3 - Kzinti Command Cruiser Berserk Frenzy
4 - 3 Kzinti Frigates Keeness, Blood Fang, & Ravager's Talon
5 - Kzinti Fast Cruiser T'Sarnic's Fate
6 - Kzinti Light Cruiser Tempest

If the Kzinti player rolls a force that has been destroyed by the Kang in a previous scenario the Kang has successfully evaded the Kzinti for that scenario.

The Kang player must destroy the Kzinti ship(s) to escape to the next scenario and get one step closer to Klingon space. If the Klingon has not crushed his opponent within 10 turns at the end of the 10th turn the Kzinti player gets to roll a die on the table to determine what reinforcements to arrive into the foray...  If the die roll indicates a previously destroyed ship no reinforcements arrive. Reinforcements are diced for at every 10th turn... turn 10, turn 20, turn 30, etc...

It is possible that the Klingon player could roll a weak opposing force, destroy that force, and reroll that same result on the table for the following 5 scenarios... making an easy campaign. On the flip side the Kang could take too long to wipe out his opponent, resulting in the arrival of more enemy ships to make for a bad day.

To me it seems the "ships" are pretty much covered in Klingon Armada, Romulan Armada, & Alien Armada.

I'd like to see some of the "monsters" from the good old SFB solo scenarios...

The Planet Crusher (the one I've downloaded is WHIMPY!)
The Space Amoeba
The Moray Eel of Space
The Cosmic Cloud
The Sunsnake
The Mind Monster
Space Dragons

That way all us Starmada players could play with ourselves.
er...
I'll get me coat and leave now...
