Ive sadly had the rules ages now and still haven't played. However I do intend to try very soon.
What sort of ship numbers would you recommend to start with?

If you're new (or getting reacquainted) I'd suggest no more than 3-5 ships per side.

One of the many things I like about Starmada is that you can learn by playing. It is much fun. 8-)
My gaming buddy & i play once or twice a week. We play c3400 points a side. Brutal, but fun. Each game takes c2 hours.
