Topic: Frictionless movment

Has anyone tried using the regular Starmada Rules and using the ships movement points, as a thrust rating? The ship would carry over movement from turn to turn, having no maximum speed. Using the ships movement points to increase or decrease speed?

For example yous ship is travling at speed of 5 last trun you have a movement of 2 the next trun I can increase speed up to 7 or reduce speed to 3

If you have did you encounter any problems?

A lot of us already use that.... pretty much the same as Full Thrust movement.  It works quite well with Starmada.

Re: Frictionless movment

We've tried vector movement before but in Starmada it is too easy to get smaller ships with large thrust values. Kind of hard to run a battle when a ship can accel/decel by 15. Unless you impose an arbitrary speed limit or up the mass of engines that is. Otherwise ships tend to fly by with a best one shot then spend several turns decel, turning and repeating. Boring, no maneuver.

Re: Frictionless movment

Most of the players that used the insane thrust levels eventually reigned themselves in. Especially if they had a mix of faster and slower ships.... as their slower ships got pounded while the fast ones were out of range, decelerating, and trying to get back into the battle. We prefer this movement style, as it requires the players to do more that stack as many weapons as possible in a limited fire arc, and attempt to keep people there.... which also tends to get boring.
