Topic: Calculating Light Guns Firepower

Hi All,

How do you calculate the firepower for light guns?

I'm working on some ship stats for the First Sino-Japanese War and some of the light gun types used are not covered in the ship conversions section of the rules. When I use the firepower calculation I get results that are far higher than those already listed. Please see below an example of my calculations.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks, George

Re: Calculating Light Guns Firepower

You don't calculate the Firepower for light guns like you do for heavy guns.
Just multiply the number of each size by the Firepower rating given in the Light Guns Chart page 37 in the GF rule book.
Gun             Firepower
37mm/1lb     1.0
40mm/2lb     1.3
47mm/3lb     1.6
57mm/6lb     2.0
76mm/12lb   2.7
88mm/15lb   3.0
88mm/20lb   3.3

Re: Calculating Light Guns Firepower

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply.

Okay, I can use those factors to calculate the Firepower for most light guns but what should the Firepower be for the 50mm/4lbs & 70mm/9lbs? The size/weight of these guns is not listed on that table.

Thanks, George

Re: Calculating Light Guns Firepower

The calculation for light gun firepower is (projectile weight)^0.4

So, your 4# gun would have a value of 1.7 and your 9# gun would have a value of 2.4.
