Hi, first post here.
Defiance looks quite interesting (and pretty flexible) to me. Now, I've got a few questions:
Can I use it without minis, and rather use counters?
How long does a game take?
How complex is the game, compared to Starmada?

1. Counters would be fine, but you'd have to come up with two dimensional rules for line-of-sight (should be pretty easy to do)
2. Typical game is about 1.5 to 2 hours
3. Probably somewhat more complex than Starmada initially, though if you use all of the Starmada optional rules, the games become similarly complex.

Yep, it helps that D:VG has an area terrain solution for LOS and cover. Obviously flying and jumping troops will create some headache and some minor rules will cease to have a meaning at all without elevations (throwing grenades and climbing come to mind).

Hmm, we have rarely managed a game (excluding setup) in under 4 but then again I think we may play a little slower than an average gaming group. But in any case, D:VG plays faster than most people might think from just reading the rules.

Wardogs and D:VG aren't in the same gaming category really, tho, so it would seem to me the conclusion was largely a foregone one.

I know - but I like both gaming categories. Just a matter of what game fluttered its lashes more enticingly
