Seen it, downloaded it, drooled over some of the minis.
But I haven't played it yet.
Don't own it, but have looked at the rules, and talked to people who have it and have played it.
It seems to be well done.
And the fact that it's collectible doesn't make any difference, or detract from it, whatsoever.
All of the models are available as singles from several sources online.
Collectible games haven't ever really bothered me.
There are just too many places online to buy what you don't end up getting in the basic games or boosters.

Haven't had a chance to really go through the rules. I seem to remember a 'board game' based on OGRE someone had oneline....
Here's a 'GURPS version'....setting it appears:

I think this is it, it's either moved, or changed...

Hmmm...not crazy about the special dice, and the points tracking thingy seems like an unneeded thing - a cribbage board -like device would be more useful, and easier to manufacture - IMHO...
I could see using similiar rules for SFO, or even Wardogs. The special attacks and immunities would be easy enough to work into things.
I watched the 'first generation' of Godzilla movies as a kid, and wasn't even aware of the 2nd or third generation stuff out there until a few months ago. I spent some time a few weeks ago downloading those via Emule (uses the Kazaa network), and have several burned to DVD. Haven't had time to watch them all, except for the orginal (1954 - Gojira, in the original Japanese with english subtitles) and Godzilla: Final Wars.
They've apparently gone all 'Alien' on me. I don't dissapprove ofthe change, it just has a different feel than the original few movies. I was a HUGE monster movie fan when I was a kid.
Own it, played it, demo'ed it (I am a Press ganger for the company and all). That said, I really like it. The health tracker is nice since your monster has two forms before it's defeated and since a player can move back and forth from form to form, know how much damage is on the current form is needed.
The special dice are also used for the number of actions that you may take in a round. Any time you want to move a figure, you spend a white action die. Any remaining dice after movement and the like can be rolled to attack!
Lastly, I was worried about the colectiablity, but I haven't really had a big issue with it. If you can get a couple of friends to trade about, it's not all that bad.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of collectables, though I can see the attraction.
The charm in many 'collections' of things is their uniqueness, not necessarily completeness.
My son collected Yugio Cards when he was little, but we just didn't have the cash to blow on the bloody things. My step son in the Philipines sent him a HUGE packet of knockoffs, some were actually better quality than the originals. At first he was really excited because he suddenly had way more than his friends. Then they had a hard time playing because the deck didn't intereact quite the same as the cards sold here.Being a practical young man, he was recently going to toss them, but I convinced him to keep them - simply because they ARE unique in that way. I made him keep his LEGOS, too...I might want to 'use' them someday...

I would rank "Final Wars" just behind the original. I LOVE that movie.

Umm... the Godzilla movies have ALWAYS had aliens crawling all over them: of the 15 Showa-era films, seven involve aliens (8 if you include the "undersea aliens" from Godzilla vs. Megalon).
While the Showa series has a certain nostalgic appeal for me, I have to admit that some of them are perhaps among the worst movies ever made (Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster, anyone? How about Godzilla vs. Megalon?). The newer series are better, but some of them toe the line of "good enough that they aren't entertaining as BAD movies anymore".
My top 5 Godzilla movies:
1) Godzilla (1954): not the one with Raymond Burr, tho; go for the original Japanese version (Gojira). Still freaks me out on some levels, and the "man vs. science vs. giant monster" plot is among the best in Japanese sci-fi.
2) Godzilla: Final Wars (2006): Some think there is too much screen time for the humans, and too little for each of Godzilla's opponents, but I think it's perfect. Lots of monsters, a rather odd backstory that is consistent with Godzilla's history (geeks like me can find a reference around every corner), and an awesome techno soundtrack.
3) Godzilla vs. Monster Zero (1965): Not a great film -- the aliens (who are clearly the basis for the antagonists of Final Wars) are quite silly, and the method for defeating them even sillier. But it's entertaining nonetheless; and the production design is a prime example of what Quentin Tarantino once said about Ishiro Honda movies: nothing looks real, but everything looks like it belongs. And I've got a soft spot for Nick Adams in Japanese films... see also "Frankenstein Conquers the World".
4) The Return of Godzilla (1984): The G-man comes back from a nine-year hiatus with a vengeance. A nice return to the "Godzilla as force of nature" approach, and the absence of another monster for him to fight is a good thing. When the Godzilla movies have gone wrong, IMHO, is when they went too far into the "Godzilla as protector" meme.
5) Destroy All Monsters (1968): Arguably providing some of the plot inspiration for Final Wars, this movie is possibly King Ghidorah's shining moment. He knocks off no less than ten kaiju in turn before they band together to defeat him.
My kids give me funny looks when I talk about Godzilla movies, and my wife is totally uniterested........

Heh, I can see why - Deepending on your point of view, it's along the lines of 'Star Blazers meets Justice League meets Godzilla on steroids"...

I stopped really following them when I was what - 11? I can remember seeing only one with Aliens - it was the one that had the guys with the thin black eyeglasses and single antenna - somehow they had gained control of Ghidirah, and called him 'Monster Zero". That they made OTHER movies in that vein totally escaped the young proto-geek I was then.
They didn't show them anywhere but the UHF channel back then. No Cable, No Satellite, and I couldn't afford movies.
I have yet to watch the few movies I've gotten on DVD...

Yeah, I think 'Smog Monster' was on TV when I was a teen - I couldn't sit through it. The phsycadelic crap turned me off...It had part that were like watching a bad Japanese verson of "Reefer Madness"..

Of what i've watched to date, I gotta agree there. It's got an errie feeling, even with the subtitles...

It's got some rough spots, but yeah..

Those horrid "Gargantua' things? Bleeah...
The "Men in Black" were too easy to defeat, I think. A more shapely 'Bad Girl' wouldn't have hurt either.... 8)
Not a Nick Adams fan, but to each his own...

I haven't seen that one yet.
I really don't mind the 'Protector' meme so much, I think it's in line with the original concept of Godzilla punishing man for his destructive proclivities...
5) Destroy All Monsters (1968): Arguably providing some of the plot inspiration for Final Wars, this movie is possibly King Ghidorah's shining moment. He knocks off no less than ten kaiju in turn before they band together to defeat him.
Nothing is better than a multi-monster smash-match!
22 Godzilla films total...and I've seen 'em all.
But Dan...crankin out trivia like that makes me seem like a mere dabbler instead of a rabid Godzila-phile as I is.

My wife and I were this >< close to getting tickets to Tokyo to watch the opening of "Final Wars" a few years back... but finally decided against it. (Not that the wife likes the movies or anything -- she was just thrilled at the idea of seeing Japan.)

Yeah, they pretty much went off the deep end right around Monster Zero. There are only so many ways you can tell the "giant monster attacks Tokyo" story, so I don't blame them for trying different things.

Actually, I agree -- but when Godzilla fights other monsters, it's more believable if he does it because (a) he's defending his turf or (b) he's just plain mad. One of the things I like about Godzilla: Final Wars is that, while Godzilla saves humanity, he does it accidentally -- he's actually trying to destroy the Gotengo, and the other monsters are just getting in his way.
I really don't like it when Godzilla fights monsters specifically to defend the Earth -- that's Mothra's gig, and brings him too close to Gamera, "friend of all children".

There have been 29, actually.

Frankly, unless I had lots of cash, my retirement fund was in great shape, and I'd already gotten my degree, I wouldn't have.
There's only so much amusement to be had from looking down the main drag in Ginza (Ginsa?), and seeingthe tops of everyone's heads....
However, the Navy paid my way to the Naval base in Sokosuka(sp?), all I had to pay was train fair. I don't think I've ever been quite that unsure of my exact location at any time in my life. There were few signs in English, but one of my friends knew a little Japanese. I think I took 5 rolls of Fuji Film of the Great Buddha. I could hardly decode the Vidoe Game machine instructions on the SIMPLE machines...

Were you born then? I was under the impression you're about adecade behind me...I think I was living in Mesquite in the early 70's. Channel 39 was big into monster and horror flicks, they had a matinee thing on the tube on Saturday nights, IIRC. A few years after the theatrical release, but broadcast TV actually showed relatively new flicks back then. So, I saw it a few years afterwards. Couldn't say exactly when...
..and Yes, i experienced the 70's first hand - that stupid show isn't THAT accurate...

Yeah, the 'Baby Godzilla' meme should be excised from canon as far as I'm concerned....
I did like the comment about the "Tuna Eate" when the American version of Godzilla got it's butt kicked pretty quick...

We'd need someone who could do the artwork -- not that I don't think you could do it, Dugan, but for something like this I think more traditional art would be better than CGI.

okay...29. I have an excuse...11 hr day yesterday and I'm still half-asleep!

True, but 'REAL' artwork is even slower than the CGI I do... I'll try a sketch or two...
You have an example of what you think is appropriate?

ARES would work if and only if you add dice pools.
<shrug> I can't say yea or nay on that one....
I won't get to the sketches until later this evening, a necessary errand's come up and I'm waiting on the wife to get ready to go...
