Topic: Extra Hull Damage

Does this score double damage on rolls of 1, 3, 5? The text of the rule, I think, does not say that it does. But because of its effect on ships with Armor Plating, I am wondering.

Gee, I have to wonder why this particular, random question, at this particular, random time... lol

Oh, no reason, vile Arcturan scumdog.

Actually, for our game, let's say it does not double damage on rolls of 1,3,5. And I do think that is true anyway but I am curious what the official answer is.

Re: Extra Hull Damage

In addition to everything else, a weapon with the Extra Hull Damage trait inflicts one hull hit per damage die. So, in effect, the damage chart looks like this:

1: HULL + ENGINE + HULL
2: ENGINE + HULL
3: HULL + SHIELD + HULL
4: SHIELD + HULL
5: HULL + WEAPON + HULL
6: WEAPON + HULL

Armor Plating "negates" any damage die that comes up 1; thus, not only is the "normal" damage canceled, but the extra hull damage is also negated.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification. Now me understands all that Arcturan armor!
Cheers,

Thanks for the clarification, Dan!

Actually, what caught my attention is that the rule says: "If using Option B1: Armor Plating, note that this extra damage takes place even on a roll of 1."

So, against Armor Plating, it would be, according to the rules as written: no hull + no engine + hull. Or is it a mistake in the rulebook?

You don't actually expect me to be consistent, do you?

If that's what the rule says as written, then it must be correct. The "extra" hull hit is NOT canceled out by armor plating.

Thus, EXTRA HULL DAMAGE vs. ARMOR PLATING:
Roll 1: H
Roll 2: E + H
Roll 3: H + S + H
Roll 4: S + H
Roll 5: H + W + H
Roll 6: W + H

I'm just not sure that's the way the rule SHOULD be. smile

Re: Extra Hull Damage

I use the ExtraHullDamage option for any weapons that I consider to be Torpedoes.  For me this extra hull damage per hit parallels torpedo damage on surface ships.

I am. It indicates that the weapon is so powerful that the armour plating just can't resist. Like a capital-ship-grade graser in HH, or a heavy particle cannon onboard a Warlock...:)
