Topic: Point Defense vs Missles

Hi guys,
I know that we concentrate more on effect than actual weapons, but has any developed any rules for using point defense against missile type weapons.  I really like to roll point defense against incoming missiles!

Re: Point Defense vs Missles

One idea I've always been fond of was allowing AFBs to fire in "reactive mode". When a flight of seekers, strikers, boarders, or fighters move into a hex adjacent to the ship, the player may allocate a number of dice up to equal to the number of batteries present against the flight of drones or fighters. Any losses taken by the flight are taken into account before the flights make their attack. AFBs used for reactive fire may not be used for any other purpose, and the ship may only roll a total number of dice equal to its number of AFBs in the course of a single turn.

Re: Point Defense vs Missles

I've been playing around with something similar in the Star Fleet Armada games, allowing the weapons with the Anti-Fighter characteristic to fire against incoming drones in a manner similar to Anti-Drones.  I've also been treating these as a sort of Dual Mode weapon and requiring that the decision to fire those weapons in the fighter phase be noted in the ship's orders (which prevents that weapon from being used in the direct fire phase).

I like this idea and would make AFB's much more useful than they are now.

These are interesting ways of dealing with seeker flights, and they do answer what I was reaching at.  I was considering using point defense against regular weapons that are defined as "Missiles"  I may give the players the option of firing direct or as a seeker with a speed = to half the range and an endurance of say 2 turns.

I concur; a means of handling projectile weapons as projectiles and missile weapons as missiles would be really neat.  I think plasma from one of the Armada books might work similarly but don't have the book in question.
