Topic: Ultra StarFire Starmada style

I just got Starmada and I am planing on using it to replace the ship design and combat rules in Ultra Starfire.  The goal is to use starfire's economics but setting up a tech tree and ship building using Starmada.    My first thought is choosing a system and using it for the base for figuring out cost.  I am also thinking about arc's  I am hoping to get a lot of ideals and bounce them back and forth on the forum.

Hey man, what would you like to know?  You can make the weapons arcs 300, like in Starfire, but you won't mount very many.  The Missle/PD interaction is hard to recreate unless you house rule it or use seekers (lots of counters!).  Other than that, it should work great!  The W translates well as a dual mode weapon.  There are other functions that can be used to recreate SF weapons.  Oh yeah, can make L's ignore shields too!

Re: Ultra StarFire Starmada style

I already did a personnal conversion of Starfire :http://www.mj12games.com/forum/viewtopi … amp;t=2449 . I'm mostly pleased about it, although I wonder if I shouldn't try another way about the ships themselves, and design them looking more like how they are in Starfire. I could rework the weapons and everything else if you have ideas.
But trying to simulate everything the same way is impossible.
For example, the drive field generated by engines doesn't create inertia, so the Starmada movement rules shouldn't be used.

Re: Ultra StarFire Starmada style

well I thought for movement I would use the opt rule for movement points.  that seems to be the same as starfire.  as for missiles I pick up a suggestion that point defense could be ruled to give a -1 to the to hit but I thought maybe it would be better if point defense gives a -1 to penetration  instead.  I am doing missiles as a direct fire weapon instead of a seeker.  the only thing is I am not sure if that would still be a .9 mod or if it should be a .8 mod.  I think i will set up the tech tree as a 30 step tree with weapons gaining abilities instead of getting smaller.  I agree that you can not completely starfire the system but I think I make it work with the Imperial level of the game.
