Topic: Praise for Ares balance

I played ARES yesterday, 7 Star Force Marines vs. 17 demons. Most of the demons were fairly low cost with no ranged attacks (except for a wizard with a powerful strike spell), whereas all the marines were quite tough and with powerful automatic weapons. Anyway, the demons won and destroyed every marine while they still had about 8 demons and the demon wizard left. My point is, in many games if you go overboard with a compact, super elite force you're virtually guaranteed a win, but Ares seems to be pretty balanced with almost any force compositions. And that's a good thing.  big_smile

I'm glad it worked out for you, and that you had fun with the game.

Oddly enough, we've found that if anything, the smaller weaker figs have an advantage in ARES, as they can swarm the super-elites...

That makes a lot of sense. No matter how much you power-up a figure, it can still only kill one enemy a turn. But 10 little guys with group attack can really dish out the pain. Ares is surprisingly balanced for a do-it-yourself game. Better balanced than some games that are simply play tested and sometimes seem to have virtually random point values.

I shall continue to enjoy Ares, at least until the binding wears out and all my pages go flying.  lol
