Topic: New Edition - Ship cards

The main thing that I'm looking for in the new edition is small ship cards!  I know that it is a wierd request, but having a single ship on a half a piece of paper is kinda unwieldly when you get to the 4 to 5 ship mark.  Now that turns are initiative based and the need to write down movement can be removed from the ship card, it might be able to get the ship card smaller.

In my personal heaven, a ship card could fit on a 2.5 by 3.5 car (a normal playing card).  Place in a card protector and attack to our heart's content!  I'd even pay for professionally done ship cards if that was the case.

This is something I've been trying to do with SAE but I think it's possible with the new version. 

Also for those who want to use written orders (like me) you can have that on the reverse of the card.

My personal Heaven would to be able to see the print if the data was on a card that size!

You will most likely (depending on the final design) be able to get 4-6 ships on an A4 sheet.

There still can be a need for writing things, like if the ship fired, if a slow-firing weapon fired, cloaked ships or its speed. Of course, it can be indicated with a particular marker or a die.

This is a good point.  And you could write down the speed of a ship when you move it instead of using a marker.  Either would work.  Once again, one of the many Great things about Starmada is that it can be readily customized by the players.  They can deal with some of the details of the mechanics of the game in a way that works for them.   8-)

I for one like places to make notes and such and am not much of a fan of markers. Perhaps that is because as a long-time cat owner I have discovered that markers are easily scattered about by leaping felines and dice are always in danger of being mistaken for an exciting new toy!

9 pounds of mischief once wiped out over two hours of a B5wars game by scattering numerous paper counters and markers in an ill-fated attempt to leap onto the table covered by a surprisingly slippery felt mat. I don't know how easy it'll be to get a single ship to fit on a playing card sized format, due to the various firing arcs, special equipment, etc. that are involved. For our play-testing, I did set up a Word document template where I can (fairly easily) fit four ships onto an 8.5 x 11 page with little problem, and with the font still being easy to read.
I've found that four ships per page is definitely manageable.

The ships can be printed four to a page on heavy paper.  Then cut them out to a size of 4" x 6" and either glue them to index cards or just leave them as cut outs.  You can then slip them into the sheet protectors that hold four of the 4x6 cards and use them that way when gaming.  You can mix and match.  I did this with the ships I made and used in the Space Combat "Full Thrust" that I used to play with Gaming Glen & My nephew.  (Once we discovered Starmada and began playing we abandoned Full Thrust.)
