Topic: Working on a setting, need rules clarification...

I'm working on a setting (only preliminary work so far) with the fighters-as-weapons idea that has been knocking around for a while. I'm not entirely sure of two rules that would help determine which way I go.

A shuttlecraft or flight of fighters is/are in a firing arc of a ship where the only weapon capable of attacking is a weapon with the seeker trait. Can the seeker battery attack the shuttlecraft/flight?

If the seeker battery can attack the shuttlecraft/flight, can the shuttlecraft/flight itself attack the seekers in the same way ships can?

I think the answer to both would be yes, but need to make sure.

If yes to both of those questions, could a shuttlecraft/flight attack seekers aimed at a ship it could be escorting?

Yes to both questions.

If fighters are weapons as you seem to say, I suppose they are seekers?
If so, they can't attack other seekers according to rules. Unless I misunderstood something.

Yeah, I'm planning on having two different fighter types.

One will be either ultrafast (and consequently uninterceptable) interceptors with just the pinpoint trait and a very short range to try and make sure its not going to be used against ships, or essentially a cloud of very tiny (and consequently uninterceptable) fighters which constantly centres on the ship, with the number of batteries representing fighter control stations. The stats are the same for both, and they've been calc'd to be roughly 50SUs in a TT arc, but I'm thinking of a way to explain the concept that is semi-satisfying...

The second will be 'space superiority fighters' which will have the seeker option as well as some others, allowing them to be targetted by defending interceptors or shuttlecraft. I'm going to be making heavy use of tractor beams--as anti-seeker 'batteries' without an anti-ship option they're the closest thing possible to an anti-fighter battery going. I know that along the way something had to be resolved, and not in the best way, and the uninterceptable interceptor fighters seems to be the least-painful way.

Shuttlecraft are going to serve as gunboats in the setting. The situation I was thinking off was the seeker-fighters launching to attack shuttlecraft-gunboats and whether the situation could occur. Now it can, I'll be able to do such a setting...:D
