Topic: Weapon help

Okay some I am plying around with a B5Ws conversion for my gaming group, I decided to start with EA as the baseline and work from there.

First of I decided to use KEB defense as it sorts the armour problem nicely.

So most of the weapons are not a problem, I have hit a bit of a wall concerning the infamous LPA's.

These are basicly two weapon systems in one ( in this case a medium laser and a medium pulse cannon.)

some I am wondering how to work it.
An idea I have had is to make a weapon with stats:
4+ 12 1/2/1 Ver Pen/Ver RoF/Dual weapon

Duel weapon means you can only use ONE of the other enhancments on the weapon. Thoughts? better ideas?

My advice would be either:

a) look at jerryxxv's conversion on the Yahoo! group--you might get an idea or two there

or b) Create the two weapons seperately. Then, add half of the smaller weapon onto the larger weapon, and give them a variable fire mode--either they fire in laser mode or in pulse mode. Might make work easier...

This is the solution used in ARES, and it works nicely.

When I was playing around with some B5W => SX conversions, I just took the Medium Laser and Medium Pulse Cannon stats and averaged them out to find a middle ground. I think that I left all of the advantages on the weapon, but I can't remember at this point -- and given that my preferred B5 campaign / playing era is 2200-2240, centered around the Dilgar War era, I never got to anything but Medium Laser armed Nova Dreadnoughts so didn't have to worry smile

The problem I have with using an average is that this would allow someone to come up with a dual-purpose weapon at a discount.

For example, let's say the two weapons standing alone are worth 50 and 20 respectively. Combine them in a dual-purpose weapon, and they are worth 35... if you only ever use the 50-point weapon "mode", you're getting a significant discount.

With the ARES system, the dual-purpose weapon will always cost more than either mode, but still give a discount over having both weapons separately.
