Topic: megacredit value of a ship?

I guess that depends upon what you're trying to achieve. If you want an RPG campaign price, then there's no easy answer -- I don't play Traveller, so I don't know on what the cost of a vessel is based, nor do I know what a general range of costs would be.

If you're just looking for a way to compare one ship to the other, there are several options:

1) Base it on the Combat Rating of the ship.

2) Base it on the mass of the ship (computed by the SXCA in cell N1).

3) Base it on a combination of the above two values. For example, a size 3 ship with 7 MPs, shields 3, and 3 "AB" weapons of range 12, 5+ to-hit, and ROF/PEN/DMG values of 2 each has a combat rating of 48 and a mass of 36.1 Kmt. One option would be to multiply the two together and take the square root; which in this case would be 41.6 MCr.

Just some ideas...

Please understand that when you read that -- Dan loves square roots. it is in his nature to suggest them. smile

Well...at least we know the root of the problem.   lol

Re: megacredit value of a ship?

Either we know the root of the problem..... or at least we know the math is squared away.......

Ok, sorry all.... terrible terrible puns..........

That's okay...on this board...posting something like that is a known calculated risk anyway. *insane laughter* lol

Oh, in case you were wondering, I've had no computer access for over 96 hours. The withdrawal symptoms were terrible...:)

Okay... getting back to the original question on this thread;

Does anyone have other ideas on how to rate the "cost" of a ship?

Re: megacredit value of a ship?

We already know how to generate the economic value (EP) with the VBAM conversion for any Starmada ship. Surely Economic cost could go from there to megacredits.

Indeed. But I'm not familiar with Traveller, so I don't know if their idea of what a ship should cost is compatible with VBAM's.

Re: megacredit value of a ship?

I'd say the original suggestion of using the CP value is pretty close on the money.  If the ship points out at 1245 CPV then using 124.5 MCr is pretty close on par from my recollection. (not done any High Gaurd designs in almost a decade  )

Re: megacredit value of a ship?

When you multiply two numbers and then take the square root of this product, you have Calculated the Geometric Mean of the two numbers.  For example, The Geometric mean of 9 and 4 would be 6.  This is something that seems to be in many of the Starmada calculations.  Bravo!!!  <LOL>

Build two 'identical as possible' ships in their respective systems, and assume they cost the same then build two more, adjust as needed....
:-)

Simple Algebra...

I'd still factor in the hull size somehow...

How do you compare a 89 CR hull 4 ship vs. one that is hull 5? (made up numbers). Is the smaller one less expensive or more?
