Topic: Stranded

I'm stuck in Crested Butte, Colorado. Two feet of snow, the pass is closed, and it's still snowing.

Thank God the Ski Patrol rescued me from walking all the way down the mountain.

I hate skiing.

But at least the lodge has internet access. How are all of you?

I'm in Tacoma, Washington.... lot's of rain here, but the highways south of me are either under water, or under the mud created by the water......
Land Slides are a pain.....

Re: Stranded

It's about 76 degrees and sunny here.

Re: Stranded

Well...125mph winds here on Sunday and Monday.  48hrs of no power, phone, and 24 hrs with any way out of town.  Ran low on food by Tuesday...fortunately they got the power up that night and roads open to varying degrees.  Managers building had the roof stripped off to plywood first night.  Trees, signs, power lines, and towers down everywhere. Part of that disaster declaration zone here...

Fortunately I sent the wife and daughter to my parents place inland before the hwy closed sunday night.  Otherwise...doin not bad.

Least it was only snow and not flooding like a few places round these parts. smile

You'll get down the mountain a lot faster by keeping the boards on than by walking (until you really hurt yourself).

That was the problem -- something was wrong with the binding on one of my skis... (at least, that's what I was telling myself... smile)

And Crested Butte is great. A long way out there. But great.
Kevin - who thinks that skiing right up there with mountain biking...

Crested Butte ain't bad, I'll admit -- they make a nice chardonnay 'round these parts. smile

But I'm thinking skiing is one of those things I'll check off my "things to do" list and never put back on.

I feel that same way, but my wife has other plans...

Raining and nasty here in the Midwest, but at least no snow is falling (currently)

I haven't done any skiing since ....1980 or so.

I'd like to go again, but by the time I'm able to afford going, it's likely I'd kill myself, having entered my 50's....

My total skiing experience was one weekend in a small 'resort' about a half-hours drive outside of Idaho Falls. Enjoyed the hell out of it - even ripped out a pair of jeans. I'm not real good at it - stayed on the Intermediate slopes - but it's a lot of fun as long as no one is playing at some one-upsmanship game about who's the best skier or has the best designer gear. I was the ONLY one on the intermediate slopes.

That front has come down here, misting rain (was heavier) and upper 30's.

You guys can have the north in the winter - it's going to be 60+ tomorrow.

Re: Stranded

I know how y'all feel about inclement weather. Today here in Central Florida it was in the low 80's with low humidity and not a cloud in the sky.
