Topic: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Of course, as soon as I had done my first read through of the new Starmada (great job everyone!), I jumped right in with the new Shipbuilder v1.0. One issue that popped up right away though. Is it just me or are the weapons being hit twice by the tech level SU Mod? Take the X battery for example. It gets the TL SU Mod to its base size in cell J16 on the worksheet page and then once you choose the firing arcs and number of weapons, it gets hit again in cell J19.

And, the ORat calculation in H9 is being affected by the TL SU Mod of the weapon which rule B.12 Tech Levels says isn't supposed to happen.

No, that's intentional.

You see, the weapons tech level is a special thing, where...

Oh, never mind.

You're right. smile

I'll release a "fixed" version in a day or two (just in case there are any other minor bugs to report). But for now, change as follows:

Cell J19: =ROUNDUP(J17*J18,0)
Cell J25: =ROUNDUP(J23*J24,0)
Cell J31: =ROUNDUP(J29*J30,0)

And, the ORat calculation in H9 is being affected by the TL SU Mod of the weapon which rule B.12 Tech Levels says isn't supposed to happen.

Yeah, yeah... smile

Change:

Cell H20: =IF(D16="",0,ROUND(J19/G13*(B11+D16)/D16*IF(D16=24,1.25,IF(D16=30,1.5,1)),1))
Cell H26: =IF(D22="",0,ROUND(J25/G13*(B11+D22)/D22*IF(D22=24,1.25,IF(D22=30,1.5,1)),1))
Cell H31: =IF(D28="",0,ROUND(J31/G13*(B11+D28)/D28*IF(D28=24,1.25,IF(D28=30,1.5,1)),1))

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Uhm, sorry Dan but you're gonna hate me for this one (or two?).   I have found that the Engines and Shields are getting hit twice by the TL SU Mod as well. Engines get hit in Cell C12 of the Worksheet page and then again in Cell J12 while Engines are getting hit in Cells C11 and then again in J11.

lol Yeah and if I weren't at work, doing this on company time, I might even feel bad.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

My only issue is that I wish the XLT file had 5 weapons slots instead of three. It is going to be hard to convert some of the (secret project name related to googleplex's comment) designs to the new format due to spinal mounts  and antifighter batteries becoming true weapons. The fact that the XLT does not allow a spinal mount conversion "by the book" for ships larger than size 5 is not that big of a deal, because honestly I think maxing out the DMG and then raising the IMP (or visa versa) as needed works even better for spinal mounts. It also allows you to personalize spinal mounts for each nation/race which I really like. Who really wants to roll 20 dice when you could roll a set of 4 and then a set of 5 anyway?

An easy enough alteration. If no one else gets around to it, I can whip one up in the next day or two.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

I would also kindly request adding at least 4-5 weapon slots to the sheet, if at all possible. That would make life easier for me, too, as I won't have to go back and add that in later (and possibly break something else in the process!).

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

No spinal mounts !!!!!!!!???????!!!!!!!!

How about 6 weapon "slots" then ?? Pretty please ???????

Thanks big_smile

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

BJ: Read p.72 for spinal mounts and other X conversion notes. Believe me, with a japanese fleet, I gots to have my spinal mounts. P.72 game 'em back. smile

Cricket: Oh BTW for the shipbuilder sheet, Dan, if you can find it in your heart to specify a "text" type field for weapon accuracy, all OpenOffice users would be much obliged. At worst, if it isn't possible to retain field type across the file import, please stick "Change the Accuracy field type to 'Text' if using OpenOffice" in the notes somewhere. I remember I had a difficult time finding this little tidbit of information a while back and the sheet breaks without it in OO (it converts 4+ to just plain 4) .

Steph

PS: Thanks for the quick printer friendly version turnaround.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

I can't read it cause I can't buy it.  I'm so broke I'm lowering everyones credit rating.

But I get paid on the 26th and might get a bonus check on the 21st.

So I'll buy it then.

Although I'm tempted to rob my savings account.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Uploaded version 1.1 to the web site: mj12games.com/starmada/shipbuilder.xlt

The stated revision is to fix the Tech Level bugs -- but I also cleaned up a few things and changed the "ACC" boxes to text values.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

I have a cosmetic suggestion and it looks like you have room for it.  Could you put 1-3-5 next to Hull, 1-2 next to Engines, 3-4 next to Shields, and 5-6 next to Weapons?  Little pictures of dice would be cooler, but even a smaller font would be nice.  It might take away from the simplicity of the form though, so this just a really light suggestion.

Love the version number field, btw.

I'll see what it looks like...

You can imbed a graphic in the spreadsheet. I can't imagine it needing to be real big in bytes.....

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

if there is space you could also try this.

Yeah, but that may break compatibility with Open Office.

I don't own excel, and won't.....

Tried both ideas... didn't like either one.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

The places to put # of weapons of a certain arc is a pull down for batteries Y and Z, but not for X.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Dan, when you next edit the sheet (hopefully to add a V and W battery) you need to fix a minor issue. AOE is undercosted. Cell P2 needs to be changed from 1.5 to 3. Likewise R18 should be =G11

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

Also how do I add a new option to the drop down I see column Q to V, but want to add another campaign specific Aux System. If I put it in row Q19 to V19 it does not seem to appear in the drop downs. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

You need to alter the "Validation" settings for cells A34:B43. Right now, they only look at cells Q2:Q18.

1) Add your option(s) to column Q.

2) Make sure you sort the list so that the options are alphabetical (this is needed to ensure Excel's lookup function works properly).

3) Select cells A34:B43.

4) Go to "Data > Validation..."

5) Make sure it says, "Allow: List"

6) Change "Source:" to cover the appropriate cells in column Q.

You're done.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

I think step 3 needs to read A34:A43, but please confirm. Also found an easier way to do it. If you highlight a Q:V line higher than row 18 and insert->shift Cells down, then add the item item to the newly inserted row, it seems to automagically do it.

Re: Starmada:Admiralty Shipbuilder

the lookup function in excel requires an alphabeticalized list, you'll get odd results unless you alphabetize it
