I have a buddy who prefers WW2 to Great War for gaming.

Really? For naval gaming?
WW2 gets all complicated with aircraft carriers and submarines and stuff. Don't get me wrong, it's cool -- but GF is so very much about big ships and big guns!
(An aside: Kevin even wants to pretend torpedoes don't exist and just shoot the guns...)
There really isn't a "WW2 version", per se -- the rules are the same (even got a couple WW2 scenarios in the rulebook). We're looking at some more stuff for GF in the forseeable future, so if you've got specific requests, now might be the time.
Actually, there has been considerable progress.
There are probably 20+ WW II scenarios in the works.
So stay tuned.
Kevin
I'm not sure about naval gaming.
He likes the idea of the Pacific battles, but those really seem to have involved inordinate numbers of air craft. So perhaps it is time to get Spitting Fire.
GF is great fun. All I can say is more, more, more.
Chiming in a tad late but I have run several GF WW2 games using 1/700 scale ships. The rules work fine and there are a LOAD of scenarios in all theaters where aircraft aren't a factor. The rules work well for WW2. Just don't expect to do Midway like Kevin said.
Thanks,
John
