Topic: Red Russians?

Has there been any "canonical" background on the Soviets past the period in the core rulebook?  I've been thinking about what kinds and numbers of ships they'd be fielding, but I don't want to duplicate effort if others have already worked on them...

Re: Red Russians?

I added some unofficial Soviet ships in the IS shipyard.  The only thing I've heard in terms of what's going to happen to them canon wise...

this is a quote from Dan the Man on that thread:
"You should know that the Soviets will be among the first to have some Martian tech... "

I think the first generation of Soviet ships (i.e., those in the next supplement) should be coversions of Tsarist vessels. After that, they can start working on their own designs... using the Martian tech they recovered from Tunguska.

Aahhh! again I say "AHHHHHH!"..

Does this mean I should be thinking along these lines art wise, then?

OOOOO.....OOOOO!

and we have conversion guidelines right here in this forum big_smile

Re: Red Russians?

I should be hearing a POING! noise about now...

Re: Red Russians?

Just prodding a bit... there was some talk about a couple people interested a few months back in doing up a fleet for the Reds.

Matt and I, along with Go0gleplex, are working on final plans for the next IS supplement, so I figured I'd put out one final call for anyone who'd like to stick their oar in...

Just holler when ya need more pix. I'm listening, I just don't have anything useful to say. Between mastering some other software (not just Poser) and playing lead man at work, I don't have any excess creativity to add into the mix...well, not without any inspiration. I'm not in the Self starting part of my biorhythms right now. :-)

Hmmm..
wonder if I could use Poseray to do the ships.....

That's bad, horrible in fact.

If I was on a WW1 or Naval list, I'd use it as a siggy....

Re: Red Russians?

By way of keeping people interested and aware that the next supplement is about 80% done, here's a poster done up by Dugan...

Well, I based the thing off this poster:

I realized as soon as I made the comment that there were lots of examples of photomontage in the NSR posters. It's just never been my favorite implementation of the genre, I like the more graphic, colorful posters. I think the poster you've got is fine, and very period, but I still think the etherships are too dark.

Can you point out some other examples of the genre?

You can never have too many period pieces... smile

That poster has bigger ships and the ships themselves are white, which cuts down the brain melting aspect of the background color.

Also the stroke around the people and other stuff is thinner and lighter than the background.

All I see in the poster you've got is the background.

Try lightening the midtones for the ships and generally "washing" out the background color and see what that gets you smile

See Jim? I told you that you were MUCH pickier than Dan is...
:-)

I tend to agree somewhat though, the ships are too dark. Lighten up the ships before putting them in the other art bits. If that's too much, drop the contrast, and decrease the colorization (or go B&W).
