Paul- that would be on the Template sheet regards my last comment

Hello Paul,
My roommate was able to download your shipbuilder 2.2 thru Open Office and I am able to make it work!
It is excellent. I noticed that when I used it to design the "USS Misissippi" that is mentioned the CR was only off by 3, but even with all tech levels set at +5, the ship came up at minus 615 SUS.
When I use the mj12games ship designer 2.0, with the engine and weapons tech both set at +3, and the general tech set at +1, there are actually 44 SU left. I am not sure why this is(?) Have I forgotten something in the Template or in the designer itself?
The CR works well, and the engines, screens, weapons, etc come out well. I have not tried to print out a sheet tho...

Hi lamont,
Template cell AI6 should not be used now, my mistake, Screens should now be entered in Template G9 as the actual number required.
By making this change I should have changed Template cell AM7 to:
=+IF($G$8="KEB";$AI$7/3;$AI$7)
Hi Steven,
The mj12games ship designer has the Tech Range set at 2 (This is above the cells for Tech levels). This means that the Max Tech levels are +2 to -2. When you entered the +3 tech levels you multiplied the SU required by 0.35 instead of the rules max of 0.5 (If you highlight the cells to the right of the tech levels and change the ink colour you will be able to see this.)
You have to choose the tech range that you will be using first (core rules page 42.)
I had the Shipyard set at a tech range of 5 to give everyone an even playing field but I have enabled this to be changed should a group want to design ships with a different range.
Thanks for the feed back. version 2.3 should clear up this glitch.
Paul
Hi Paul,
Just downloaded and used version 2.3; looks good.
How do I change, increase, the tech range so that my ships do not have minus many hundreds of SUS?
Steven
Hi Steven,
The Tech Range is On the Tables sheet cell C1.
To stay within the rules, this number should not be less than the tech levels used in the ship design. This should be decided Before designing the ship.
Other than that change the ship design?
Paul
Thanx Paul, I changed the C1 number to 3 from 5 and now there are plenty of SUs left. I plan to put some cargo on these ships and possibly identify them as...freighters
When your idea of "change the design", reached the SJG Admiralty, CNO Beowulf was speechless (this has never happened b4!). He almost passed out...<LOL>

PS: We are playing Starmada again @ Wardogs today (Sunday), here in Jacksonville @ 2pm. All are welcome
Had to laugh at that vision.
Have done a bit of a re-write to the Small Craft sheet, VBAM customized flights off the peg. I wanted shuttles so these are a choice also.
VBAM stats for Starmada type fighters depend on SU cost/resulting weight class.
Changes made as some things like speed are already factored into the SU without making a Fast/Slow choice.
Version 2.4 posted
Just a note. v2.6 posted. Few minor changes. see notes on fighters & shuttles.
That should be it until the next AE addition.

Might just be me but it seems only the first weapon on the shipyard tab has access to ISS Range combos. The rest do not have the drop down tab.
When I enter a number into the # arcs for the weapons it says
The value to enter must be between 0 and =$AB$29
Mac OS X Excel 2004 for Mac version 11.3.7 (070724)
Sheet Version 2.6
Also, the Drake Notation is not correct, it should read
10/20/30, 1/2+/1/3
Piercing
Finally, maybe there could be a manual written on how to use this, I am still baffled by it.
Oldngrey,
I've been playing round with the Shipyard for Admiralty ISS Ed all
evening and I've been getting two strange errors. The first are
numbers reading as text which I've been able to correct. The second,
on the template, is an #N/A which is telling me there is "value not
avavailable error". Any ideas on a fix?
Thanks

I do not know how but I just tried and got an invalid entry putting in a number??? Change the green ARC cells to text format.
Did not pick that up as AE only has letter ARCs.
I have changed the Drake notation.
OK something of a manual now on Yahoo, best I could do in a few hours.
New version shipyard in a few minutes.
Combo drop downs fixed.

Some numbers read as text for a reason, they are. Strange things spreadsheets, sometimes they do not like numbers as numbers.
Where do you get the #N/A and is it after entering something?
There are some error signs that I cannot duplicate due to the number of different excel spreadsheet types. The latest seems to play havok with the shipyard.
Paul
Paul,
I see you've made an update since my last post. The place that I see the #N/A is on the template in the SU and CR blocks. Is that correct?
Jonas
HI Jonas
These come at the end of all other calculations. Somewhere else on the template sheet there must be a N/A or error shown.
Is it possible for you to list what you have entered?
If you are getting the N/A on opening the shipyard (with the example intact) then it is the excel version making changes to how it works.
Paul
Paul,
I haven't entered anything yet. I just opened up the newest sheet and the example template has the error. Also if you go over to the ship sheets, the CR is listed as an error. The new error says value not available to formula or function. :?
BTW, thanks for that great how to guide. I never realized how versatile the sheet really was till I read it last night.
Jonas
Hi Jonas,
Pleased that the How to is understandable. A picture can explain details better than trying to in just words.
By the way, the Ship on the last page is a Bitmap saved from the Starmada sheet.
Must mean that the Excel is changing some of the cell formats.
Probably somewhere in the template sheet block from AX8 to BC38.
The Calculations from the template sheet are copied over onto the text and starmada ship sheets so the problem is not there. Sometimes a different version of Excel need only change one little thing and errors crop up all over.
Sometimes I just hate spreadsheets. Found another quirk yesterday that was stopping the small craft traits from working properly!
Check out OpenOffice.org, there may be a version of Open Office calc that you can use. Quite a few people use it, maybe as it is free.
I keep the shipyard as Microsoft Excel 97/2000/xp.
Revamped the way that some of the VBAM stats are calculated. Some clashed due to the change from Starmada X to AE.
Added a page to the Shipyard pdf for VBAM ships.
Just uploaded New Shipyard v3.2 and how to pdf V2 to go with it.

I think I may have found the error. In Excel 2003 you can do a error trace which is what I did. After several traces, It led me to the weapon tech level mods on the template. If I hand poked the correct mod in , it corrected all the errors.
Hope this helps
Thanks Jonas
Thanks, I think that this is just one of those quirks of translation.
Paul
Just downloaded the version 3.2 shipyard and attempted to build a ship to test it. On the ship dsiplay sheet the weapons all came out as having ROF 4 (not what I put in the nation sheet) and ACC 1+ on the first two weapons (also not what I had on the Naion sheet). It didn't mess up any of the SU calculations, just the end output.
Cheers,
Erik
PS I am using OpenOffice.
As a certain Captain in the Home Guard would say "I wondered if you'd spot that"
Down to me. Failing memory and changing things on the spreadsheet after 2am.
I had changed the ROF and ACC around from earlier versions and forgot to carry the change through.
Oops had the wrong line in a couple of cells in the Starmada BITS.
I think that I have fixed them (It is 3.58am here) V3.3 uploaded.
Also added VBAM Campaign specific ship (Passengers, Tender & Jammer).
Will add these to the How to pdf when I have time.
Thanks for taking the time to point out the errors.
Paul
Version 3.4 with companion pdf V3 posted
Sorry about all of these updates.
My brother thinks I'm nuts to keep going over the spreadsheet to find faults!
