Re: RE: New Sourcebook

When I saw the first expansion for starmada, I was really excited since there were new rules in it and having 'known' Dan and MJ12games for a while I was 100% sure that all the rules would be compatible with the basic rules.  I also remember the ISS story line and was glad that it was back.  That purchase was a no brainer for me.

When the new sourchbook book came out and saw it had new rules in that, I was again excited since I knew that it would be 100% compatible giving us players more options for the system.

I think that this sourcebook system that Dan and Co. have designed is a great way of giving the players more options as rules are thought up.  You want ships that get a free pivot after movement is complete, you need to look no farther than the Grumm (and the cost for that ability is included!!).  The idea and concepts for new rules can be ever expanding as players dream up new and cool abilities for new sourcebooks.  All I ask that all ship options from expansions be compatible with each other so we don't have any expansion in its own 'vaccum' and life will be good for starmada players.

Since I play Warmachine/Hordes, this system of game expansions with new rules is nothing I haven't already seen and dealt with.  Thankfully, after 4 Warmachine books, PP put all the rules for Warmachine into a single volume (called Prime: Remix) so players could buy one book that had all the needed rules in it.  I'm sure that Dan will have a book with all the new rules once there are more options (Personally, I love reading the stories and such so it does bother me).

I'll get off my soapbox now...

Re: RE: New Sourcebook

A Wardogs setting book is definitely a possibility...and at the back of my mind daily (got a few really cool ideas for it too).  Got to get the initial game layout finished and out first (cursed learning curve  :? )

Cold Navy has long since been associated with Starmada...and without dropping too much information, that isn't going to be changing anytime soon.  There's a lot of synergy between the two that is currently being 'worked upon' independently at present.  *innocent grin*

Re: RE: New Sourcebook

I've been really happy with Starmada and ISS. The books aren't that expensive, and you get a ton of useful stuff for your dough. I'll probably be happily buying them for a while.

The danger with all these rules comes when special cases make rules work in some settings, but not others. Or, you get an escalating series of special cases--ugh.

From posts and other comments, it seems Dan & the Admiralty is well aware of that trap. So, keep 'em coming! Where should we be looking for hints at what's headed our way?

Re: RE: New Sourcebook

And heck, I can churn out a couple of settings. One setting I'm thinking of, the setting I had to re-design three factions after I forgot the new values for certain items, has no humans involved, only two races, and one of those is the focal point for the setting.

I've got a tentative title for it, too: the Titanium Cluster. I did want to call it the Nexus but I don't want to rip off someone elses name (who designed a B5W faction which is in the Great Machine)
