Topic: Dreadnoughts v. VBAM

So a couple questions. . .

Now that Starmada has a Dreadnoughts version out. . . is it possible to use VBAM to play out a campaign?

How closely linked are VBAM and Starmada?  Could we use Grand Fleets with VBAM also?

Re: Dreadnoughts v. VBAM

I do not know about Grand Fleets but it should be possible to use VBAM for a Dreadnoughts campaign. The VBAM Starmada edition is for Starmada X but AE conversion can be done.

Although Flotillas are not strictly a part of VBAM, I have just updated the stats in the shipyard to include them. So long as they are treated as One ship it should work.

First ever campaign rules I came across were for a hypothetical world war game. They are in Sea Battle Games by P Dunn, published by Model & Allied Publications Ltd in 1970 (the year I bought the book). Being for Naval action, air and land warfare are simplified. Most important thing being transporting steel and oil to factories and ports, without which You cannot build new ships or have them at sea. It makes a good read even now.

Re: Dreadnoughts v. VBAM

It's definitely doable. I have been tinkering with rules for just such a game - VBAM with Dreadnoughts. Sadly, my time is not my own and they will likely never see the light of day.  sad

There are numerous challenges for the VBAM combat system but if you are using Starmada for the battles, then you have solved many of the issues.

The other matter is, of course, that it took many years to build most dreadnoughts (although, somehow, the Brits managed to build Dreadnought herself in a matter of months!). This creates a strange dynamic not found in most VBAM settings where, with optional rules, the largest capital ships might take as much as a year to build -- but not 4-6 years!
