Ranking system?
At first, I wasn't sure what you were talking about.
But I'm guessing it's with respect to the ranks listed beneath everyone's avatars.
If so, it's probably set up to reward those who tend to yammer more than others.

That, and an excuse to call myself "Admiral of the Fleet".
Well, since you don't have a fleet to speak off...:D
Whaddya mean, no fleet?
WE are his fleet!
Toot toot! aooogah!
Am I a Rear Admiral because of all the Butt jokes?
Admiral Horthy didn't need a fleet!
Okay, to be fair, Admiral Horthy had a fleet but lost it in a little thing called the Treaty of Versailles. He made sure he kept the title and the uniform as dictator of Hungary, though.
Point is, as the dictator of the MJ12 forums, Dan needs no excuse (or fleet) to give himself the grandest title he wishes.
All Hail the Admiral of the Fleet!
Am I a Rear Admiral because of all the Butt jokes?
Spitting coffee at Panera is embarrassing...
I think it's cause we make the bigger arses of ourselves Mike.
Oops. Spoke too soon again. Looks like the ranks have changed once more.
FWIW, I'm thinking the rankings are based on how often we post. Last I checked, I had posted over 7% of the traffic on the forum.
Having a lower ranking than me likely means you blather less than I do...probably a good thing in most cases...
I blather 1% more than you do Mike. Probably with less relevance to boot.
The ranks are indeed based on number of posts.
The specific breakpoints are top secret, but anyone who knows me is likely to figure 'em out.
Any chance we could have enlisted ranks in addition to officer ranks or can I choose the enlisted path instead of the officer path? NCOs do all the work.

PREACH ON, BROTHER!
NCOs do all the work.
Then why are there no enlisted ranks in Star Trek?
Seriously -- there is no functionality within the software (that I am aware of) to allow for different 'paths'.

There are no enlisted ranks in Star Trek because Gene had a screwed up idea of how the military OUGHT to work? Trek is at best mind-candy - B5 is closer to reality - well, unless you start talking about 'First Ones'. John Ringo and Heinlein are better if you want to see 'reality' - I heartily endorse either, I've been reading Ringo a lot recently.

It doesn't have to be seperate, as theoretically, officers of the lowest rank outrank the highest enlisted.
...but don't tell a Navy chief that....they usually eat Midshipmen for breakfast...
Officers are a remnant of the "Nobility' concept, and should be relegated to the scrapheap - IMNSHO...
What? Yeoman, Technician, and Chief don't count?
What? Yeoman, Technician, and Chief don't count?
...not in the trek universe, apparently.
Notice that corporate heads and the acquisition of wealth is something that's non-existent in the time of trek, also.
It's a socialist utopian fantasy, and Starfleet's purpose is to preserve it.....
there's a mod for PHPBB that allows multiple paths...
I wouldn't worry about it tho
What? Yeoman, Technician, and Chief don't count?
Okay, so there was one Yeoman and I think a Chief or two that I remember from Trek... but that's about it.

The numerous, seldom ranked red-shirts and blue coverall clad technicians in the jefferies tubes...or getting served up somehow...the unsung (one episode) heroic toss away characters...
Suddenly, I'm having flashbacks of GalaxyQuest....Guy in the shuttle..."I don't even have name...I'm gonna diiiiiiieeeee".
Well, this is probably all a moot discussion anyway.
In this new "spread the wealth" era, ranks will be going away.
Because we're all the same, right?
The "high number of posts" people should be expected to give us "lower number of posts" people some of their posts, right?

Dude, I am SO not touching that one....
