Re: PBEM counters

The fleet names are purely cosmetic, at least at this point. We wanted to have four generic fleets -- generic in the sense that they have ships available for any type of fleet players may be using -- and gave them names mainly to have something better than Fleet 1, Fleet 2, Fleet Red, Fleet Blue. I think it also helps Mike's artistic muse to have something to hang its hat on. (Did I just mix metaphors?)

Re: PBEM counters

Today, I added a layer for marking ships as having Fired already in that phase. Not sure this is the final color (comments always appreciated) but I think it clearly says: "'Ey! Dis guy fired awready!"

For the ship on the left, there is a Hit Marker over top of the ship. But you can see when you hover the mouse pointer over a stack, it shows you an image of each counter in that stack side-by-side. In this case, it shows the Ship with the Fired layer next to the Hit Marker for that ship.

Just to let anyone that's following this know....

I'm working on something for Dan right now, so this is on hold until THAT is done - well from my end. All I'm doing is the artwork, the MOD can go forward....

It's GOOD to be the King... er... Fleet Admiral.

In that case, I'll dock your pay! I'll garnish your wages!

Re: PBEM counters

The Dugan continues to churn out beautiful images. Here is the rest of the Republic Fleet -- the Fleet Carrier, Escort/Light Carrier, and the Fighter, Bomber (reduced to 4) and Interceptor Flights.

In other news -- the very first playtest game has begun. I will endeavor to post some in-progress pics of it as we go. I have two Victory Class CAs and a Anval Class FF against my fierce opponent (Lsutehall) and his two Wraak Class BCs and Anval FF. We are both using the Republic Fleet counters for the moment as it is the only complete faction.

Re: PBEM counters

I've got some 'Empire' ships done, but neglected to send them home. I go back into work tomorrow, so I'll try to get to those back here, and get them all rendered up (not to mention finish them all).

I haven't rendered the overhaed view counters yet, but here's the 'glamor shots' for the Confederation ships that I've been working on here during our little ice storm.....not my BEST work, but something has to be ugly:

IF YOU SAW THE ESCORT I POSTED....just forget you ever saw that....

Re: PBEM counters

I dunno Mike.  Those look pretty spiffy to me.  smile

Re: PBEM counters

Whoa, I'm sold! I love 'em!

Re: PBEM counters

Not Arf!
Very, Very nice.

Could we PLEASE have these as table top counters when you render overhead views (but bigger than for PBEM)?

Paul

Re: PBEM counters

Noice! I love 'em, Mike.

And yes, talk to Dan, I bet you could easily put these into a mount-your-own Counter PDF to be sold by MJ12.

Re: PBEM counters

I'm glad everyone likes the counters.

These are the "Empire" ship glamor shots, I'm doing these during spare moments at work. I've zipped up the model files and sent them home, where I'll render the counters. Just the three 'big boys' for now, haven't done the battlecruiser and smaller.

IIRC, the ship order goes, Heaviest to lightest:
----------
Battle Moon/ Mobile Fortress
Battleship
Battlecruiser
Cruiser
Light Cruiser
Escort/Destroyer
----------
Heavy Carrier
Carrier
Escort/Light Carrier
-----------
Bomber
Fighter
Interceptor

Re: PBEM counters

And the scout class below the Destroyer/Gunship. I can't wait to plug these into the mod! (Yes, I know. I'm a geek.)

While nice, this one looks very similar to the ship from Crusade, the Babylon 5 spinoff:

Re: PBEM counters

I dare say any tri-finned ship is going to look like the Excailbur a bit.

Lets face it, since the beginning of space fiction (just look at astounding stories and the like), ships have been just about every shape from a sphere to a cube, from smooth to a flying junkpile, from the size of a pencil to a small moon.

Every ship will look a bit like a ship from somewhen sad

Re: PBEM counters

Now that we are playtesting the mod, Laurence and I keep coming up with ideas to improve it. Here's one I was thinking about from the beginning and just implemented: Firing Arcs!

Notice the firing arcs rotate when the counter rotates (of course). Also, when you draw the range thread as depicted, it gives you, I hope, a very accurate idea as to which arc a target lies within.

Re: PBEM counters

Now, THAT'S freaking cool.

I've been busy with other things the last week or so, but I'm still working on pix'n stuff....

One of the things I've done (in between stints as our household's taxi driver) is download the latest VASSAL client, and see if I've got everything on my machine needed to run it. I was un-aware it was a Java thingy. Not a big deal, but another thing to think about. I run Windows 2000 - with no plans to upgrade (well, until ReactOS goes beta) - and it works fine. I'm off to VASSAL.org, to read up on it a bit more....

I'm thinking that VASSAL can be used for other MJ12 games, thereby electronically enhancing your gaming pleasure.
