I like cartoons.

I love cartoons, Dugan. The greatest achievment we ever done as a species was to maintain a part of us children. Biologically speaking, every evoluted individual of a species learns while it is still a infant. As soon as it gets into the adult state it looses the ability to learn. Several very interesting experiments on this were done with chimps. The human species is the only one that retains "childwood" into it, maintaining its capacity to learn. It also gives us "humour", "mischief" and a "sense of wonder". If you loose these traits, you're old. Thus, cartoons!

I grew up with "Conan the boy in future", and I suppose that this (and we can't call it exactly anime) cartoon (and we can't call it exactly cartoon) moulded all my universal fantasy. I remember playing with an old steam watertank in a empty field three km from my house and it was my spaceship, house, end-of-the-world refuge. It was awesome. It is still awesome. My children will find it awesome. And I hope to see itwith my grandchildren.

I'm sorry, but any cartoons made since about 1970 or so are merely "shallow impersonators" of the giants that stood before them. 
Any Looney Tunes, and to a lesser degree the Hanna-Barbera stuff, were classics.
And of the course, the all time champion of cartoon shows *has* to be the Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle.
With one of my personal favorite segments in the show being Fractured Fairy Tales.

Do we really want to compare technologies?

I remember Black and White TV's that had to warm up for 10-15 minutes before the picture was clear. You can't FIND a typewriter anywhere but old secnd hand shops or in a large governmental bureacracy (not that I'd use one) ...

I remember NOT having Air Conditioning - in Texas, no less. You played outside because it was cooler....

One of the reasons I like the idea of not moving technology ahead real fast in the Iron Stars universe is that it moves so fast in this one. I grew up with NO video games - my kids have already had a Nintendo 64, an XBOX, and a PS2. I was a teenager before PONG came out....PONG !

I have nothing against new technology, but there's something to be said for being ready with something else in case the new crap fails.

Yeah, I can't stand Family Guy either. Simpsons, they have their moments, but never followed it - we didn't want the kids acting like that.

Marine Boy? Like a junior version of Submariner, or something else? I never heard of "Future Boy Conan", not afiliated with the Barbarian of the same name, apparently.

The Godzilla cartoons never garnered too much of my attention. Didn't really care for it....ditto Star Trek toons, I'm either a little older, more cynical, or both. Both shows could have been MUCH better...

..and yeah, the DFW area is apparently a culturual wasteland in some respects.

I don't think ALL the cartoons from my childhood are better (don't know if that was aimed at anyone, just responding to the comment), but I do view some of them (though the production vlaues were TERRIBLE in some cases) with a great deal of affection. Some of the stuff they do nowadays is much better - but some is dreck - just like "back in the day". The main difference is that things are less 'regional' - if you've got cable or satellite, then we're all looking at the same stuff. Back in the day, UHF and local independents showed repeats - now it's cable. The market is also MUCH larger, which means there's more than either Disney, Hanna-Barbera, or some badly-translated anime to pick from.

Spongebob Squarepants - i gotta agree. If you get it, it's freaking hilarious. Yes, I can do a "Patrick" pretty well...

Mr. Meaty - I think my kids watch it, I suspect it's on when I'm at work...

Making Fiends - ? never heard of it...

Chowder - Boomerang is the only cartoony network we get at work, constantly runs commercials for it. Looked stupid, so I haven't tried to watch it. Some of my co-workers are convinced I'm nowhere near as old as I look....

Invader Zim - hear of it, not watched it...

My Life as a Teenage Robot - sat through a few episodes, meh.

No, I'm not a fan either. I just couldn't get interested in it. Too many '4th wall' comments, and it's like sometimes their trying to set a record for "most interest groups offended in a single cartoon episode". Yeah, parts are funny, but it's not something I'd go outta my way to watch...
