We gotta remember that it's not 1965 anymore and it's ok to change the story...for god's sake let it live on it's own merits first, then pick the nits till the sun comes down.

I'm not a fan of changing things around, but I'm willing to wait and see what the movie turns out like. Not owning a SINGLE PAIR of rubber ears - If it's better, I'm all for it. Isn't it supposed to be a 'pre-quel' that lines up with the original series, anyway?
The rubber toys on that page were NOT better...
They are a re-imagining of the original. and a damn fine one too.
I am looking greatly forward to the movie, but with a certain trepidation, as it may server to undermine all I remember about TOS.
We shall see, as they say, what we shall see.

Anyway, I am perfectly willing to give this movie a fair chance. Some of the merchandising, on the other hand, makes wonder about the intellectual capacity of the people responsible.
