Topic: Static Screens - New Player Design Help

Hi There,

I'm brand new to Starmada and just running up a few designs with the creation rules.
I'd like to have a ship with fixed screens e.g.  Screen values of 2 in hexes GHI (Front half) and 1 in the rear hexes JKL.
Is the a rule I've missed to allow this or any suggestions as to what adjustments I could make to cover this?

The construction rules have a divisor of 4 in the screen calculation, would uping that to 5 to cover the loss of flexibility make sense?  Or some fraction 4.5, 4.75 etc?

  Thoughts?

Cheers.

Re: Static Screens - New Player Design Help

Just use one of the Starmada AE shipyard programs that are availiable in this forum.  The links to them are everywhere...
Then, when designing your ship, assign it 9 screens and put them as you described.  Welcome to Starmada!   big_smile

I would say a divisor of 5 is a good place to start. However, this is one of those things I'd really like some playtest data on before making a strong commitment.

Thanks for the input - I'll give 5 a go and see what's what.

I'll report back when I have some playtest info of any worth.

Cheers.

Is there a need to change the divisor? The rules do not state that the allocation of screens have to change from turn to turn therefore the only choices made are that the ship uses screens and how many.
The choice not to re allocate the available screens is the same for everyone using them.

Assuming that everyone is using static screens, the divisor is irrelevant.

But if some are using static screens, others "normal" screens, and others regular shielding, then the divisor matters a great deal. While you don't HAVE to change the shield distribution from turn to turn, the fact is that you CAN. With the static screens, this option is gone, and so there should be some discount.

Nice to see what I was after officially printed in the Iron Stars sup.
I was hoping the Faceted Shielding listed in the description was what it sounded like and I wasn't disappointed.

Re: Static Screens - New Player Design Help

How about ablative armor?  Someone in the KA post mentioned that, but I can't find any reference to it in anything.
Any thoughts on the possibility of ablative shields mentioned in the KA topic?
Also, I picked up IS and I like it.
