Topic: Seeing AARs ....what do folks think?

I see a couple of folks are playing in the setting.  Just curious what thoughts might be, positive and negative.

If I ever got the energy to further the timeline...and won Dan over into allowing another installment, I'd like to know what people thought worked for them, what sucked, what there should be more of, less of, etc...what struck them as generic, what stood out as different enough that it should be taken a little further.  Stuff like that.

I still haven't bought my own bound copy, which the wife gives me grief about.  I really should do that.

I really enjoy your stuff Matt, like you didn't already know that. wink

Re: Seeing AARs ....what do folks think?

It's just neat to read about people using the setting :-)

I'd like to expand the storyline.  It's a matter of energy, free time, and having no idea where to take it.  I need to start brainstorming.

Dude, I'd LOVE to screen any ideas you have...I can absolutely understand the whole 'feedback' motive...

Wow...doesn't that sound familiar to me. *chuckles* wink  You do a better job of it than I do...that's for sure.

Re: Seeing AARs ....what do folks think?

I want more reasons for conflict between the Earth powers!

Seriously, I like the setting and the distinctive fleet approaches. If you advance the timeline, you could take the idea from the Starfire series of novels and have each faction upgrading its tech and ships to reflect the results of battles among the groups. So the DaiKen would have new ship designs meant to deal with Grumm technology. Of course, the Grumm, as written, seem unwilling to change the way they do business, so maybe this would hurt the Grumm more than others. But you could always introduce new, as-yet-not-encountered Grumm designs.

There is the possibility of the Grumm incorporating Terran tech into their designs. Maybe a large scale push from the Grumm could see the balance of power seriously shifted as the Dai-Ken absorb major casualties. I for one wouldn't like to see wholesale upgrades a la Starfire...I always thought the ever increasing tech level was a weakness as tech shifts (on all sides) tended to influence battles more than tactics, which as players of a game I want to be the deciding factor. Obviously some upgrades are possible and likely, but refinement of designs (more special ships?) and doctrine would be more interesting to me. Just my 2 cents worth.
Cheers,
Erik

Re: Seeing AARs ....what do folks think?

Yeah, I meant subtle tech upgrades. And I was thinking special ships to add to the fleets that exist now. So, what Erik said.  8-)

Re: Seeing AARs ....what do folks think?

I enjoy the setting and like the special for the Grumm.  It's too bad that there aren't more of those things!

A second book would be interesting as either a timeline increase or a new player on the scene.  Of course a campaign with 10-15 scenarios, new units and the like would be a welcomed change from the current releases.

Oooh, yes! A campaign supplement would be awesome.

Re: Seeing AARs ....what do folks think?

I'm pondering forwarding the timeline and adding a new player -- namely the race that created the Grumm in the first place.  What the hell do they look like?  What's their motivation?  Who knows.
