Ragnaros Hegemony

The Ragnaros Hegemony fleet is based upon hard hitting long range fire and maneuverability. Battle groups almost always consist of two elements; screening ships which protect against fighters and missile attacks and battle line ships.  Battle groups will strive to keep the engagement range open, but if pressed by the enemy into closer ranged engagements they do have the capability of inflicting heavy damage but only at the cost of leaving themselves vulnerable to small craft action. Fleet unit crews train constantly and utilize highly developed targeting systems to provide murderously accurate fire against enemy combatants.

The Ragnaros Hegemony fleet uses screens instead of shields. This is both a strength and a weakness in that it enables their ships to project heavy shields towards the enemy, yet by doing so, leaves the vessel seriously exposed in the opposite direction. To this end, Ragnaros battle groups use a combination of mines and lighter units tasked with providing defensive fire to protect their exposed flanks. Electronic countermeasures and armor plating help provide additional protection to their ships but are considered last ditch defenses only.

Standard Equipment on all Ragnaros Hegemony fleet units is as follows;
Armor Plating
Hyperdrive
Fire Control
Countermeasures

Tech Levels are based on a +3/-3 progression

The Wodyn class destroyer has the primary role of targeting and destroying enemy screening elements. It is also the standard anti-piracy ship encountered with merchant convoys and system patrol missions. The Wodyn class destroyer is sometimes included in 'wolf-packs' tasked with commerce raiding. The limited ammunition of its coil rifles makes it less than optimal in this role however.

(146)  Helia Class Raider

[ACE]   [BDF]  [HGI]
Specials: Hyperdrive, Armor Plating, Fire Control, Countermeasures, Marines (10),
Carrier (25)- Boarding Pods only

The Helia class raider is used exclusively for anti-commerce missions and raids deep behind enemy lines. Since its armaments are all energy weapons, its mission duration is limited only by food and repair needs. Typical tactics for raider captains is to cripple enemy ships before boarding with marines to finish off any defenders, make repairs, and then fly their prize back to Ragnaros.  Helia class raiders are almost never encountered as part of standard fleet formations unless the situation is dire.  In such situations, the Helia raider is most useful in protecting the rear and flanks of the main formation.

(254)  Hydahl Class Escort Cruiser
Tech Levels E+1 S0 G0 W0 F-1
Hull:  7  6  5  4  3  2  1

Specials: Hyperdrive, Armor Plating, Fire Control, Countermeasures, Mines (7)

The Hydahl class escort cruiser is designed to actively engage enemy fighters and missiles as part of the main fleet battle line. This vessel is also seen in a commerce protection and escort role as needed. The Hydahl class cruiser has a secondary role involving the engagement and destruction of light enemy units and screening elements. Like the escort vessels, this ship class is equipped with mines to deny the enemy maneuver area along the flanks of the fleet or to force them into optimal fire lanes for the main battle units.

(225)  Riff Class Attack Cruiser
Tech Levels E+1 S0 G0 W0 F-1
Hull:  7  6  5  4  3  2  1

The Syrtur class battleship when seen, serves as the command ship for main battle line formations.  Rather than engage enemy capitol units exclusively, this vessel supports the main battle line as a whole, directing its massive firepower where it is seen to be needed.  Unlike most battle line units, the Syrtur class battleship has a moderately sized marine contingent aboard to provide both shipboard security and bolster damage control parties when necessary.</r>

Re: Ragnaros Hegemony Fleet

Not a big fan of ammo weapons, but nice looking fleet design.
You don't use carriers?
