Topic: Magic resistance rename

I'm putting together a fantasy skirmish game, and one of the stats is a magic resistance stat.
Anytime a spell is cast that'll affect a model, this magic resistance stat is used to resist the spell.
Currently I'm calling it "Magic," that can be a little misleading.
It's been suggested calling it "Magic Resistance," but I'd like to keep the stat name shorter.
So now the tentative working name is "Resist." I'd like to keep it to six or seven letters, or shorter, if possible.
Any other suggestions that I might be missing?

Re: Magic resistance rename

I was playing around with a RPG-wannabe a few years back, and I used the term "Alchemical Inertia" to describe a material's resistance to magical change.

That's actually kind of cool, but violates the six or seven letter restriction.  big_smile
I've got the stat cards reduced enough in size to fit on business card stock, so that's why I'm looking for short stat terms, or at the least a stat that can be abbreviated.

I think resist (or resistance) is as good as you're going to find...

Re: Magic resistance rename

Well, how about just "INERTIA".....?

Nah, inertia just doesn't make me think of magic.

Re: Magic resistance rename

What about "MR"?

or MagRes

Or Charlie

Funny you should mention "MagRes."
It's one that I've thought about already.  big_smile
"MR" might also work pretty well on a character card as an abbreviation.

This one probably not so much.  wink

Re: Magic resistance rename

I like MagRes.  Easy to see what it's suppose to be.

From a "background" perspective, I'm not sure about it... "MagRes" sounds very futuristic/sci-fi -- doesn't fit well in a fantasy setting, IMHO.

Re: Magic resistance rename

Personally, I like Resist unless there is something else in your game that might need to be resisted.

For purely stat card purposes, abbreviations are fine:
MR
ResistM

Re: Magic resistance rename

"Prepare a full spread of MagRes Torpedoes, optimize Magnetic Resonance for a 4 KM spread!"

Re: Magic resistance rename

Poof.
i.e. spells that don't work go poof.

Heh..I like that one - "Poof" - the chance that the spell is useless, despite the effort thrown into it.

...maybe you have to roll above the Poof Percentage for it to work.

You had me until "Poof Percentage"... smile

I said "Maybe"....and it's not "Poofter Percentage".

Re: Magic resistance rename

Squelch#

6 letters:  Check
Doesn't sound high tech:  Check
Verbs the mechanic:  (Spells are Squelched)

Re: Magic resistance rename

um...

7 letters?

1S 2Q 3U 4E 5L 6C 7H

and what's the # for?

Re: Magic resistance rename

Squelch is a little too sci-fi-ish anyway.
I think I've settled on "Resistance," which will be shortened to "Resist" on the stat cards.
