I'm a little reluctant to just skip the tunnel rules altogether, since it's (for me, at least) a big chunk of the Bug's flavor.  Might be able to simulate a lot of it with the Covert Ops rules, though...

That would be the best bet as sneaking in particular has several similarities with tunneling movement (such as conferring a degree of ablative cover). It's not nearly as surefire tho since sneaking troops can be spotted and then attacked normally, which of course isn't the case with SST tunneling troops. But then again, a lot of the things won't be the same anyway so I'm not sure if it matters all that much.

The SST bug list indeed isn't all that massive or complicated. In fact I think Demian's "archetypal" bug army list (the Organic/Biotech one that is) would be able to cover a big part of it (despite the fact that SST bugs are all at least SZ 3).

Re: What Army are you working on and where are you getting minis

I think it makes perfect sense that tunneling troops can be "spotted". Maybe less so that that "untunnels" them, although that is in effect what happened to "burrowing" bugs in Starcraft.

Re: What Army are you working on and where are you getting minis

The Book makes it quite clear that the MI can easily detect tunnel activity.  "Frying bacon" y'know...

Miniature Line from Darkson Designs with their "WWII figs" pretty much screamed Defiance to me. smile

Re: What Army are you working on and where are you getting minis

Jawohl, their gun even looks like the Defiance Machine Pistol if you don't look too closely.

Probably will be "forced" to get me some of those... The one ceveat is that since DD are professional painters (IIRC), they can make a mediocre model look smashing in small pics.

Anyway, if these turn out good I hope they'll also release the 25mm Russians they did at the larger scale. They seemed pretty sweet too, but I'm too entrenched in 28mm to be able to go true 25mm.

Attendum: found a size comparison link. The German guys are DEFINITELY not 25mm. Seems they are not even "true 28mm" but rather "true 30mm" as they seem to be as tall as -- if not taller than -- WARMACHINE figs. This scale creep thing is not something I really like to encourage, but I suppose it can't be helped anyway so I'll probably buy some all the same

Re: What Army are you working on and where are you getting minis

Hi guys,
Just brought the game and like what I've seen so far. I'm looking at building a force based on the Starship Troopers MI troops with a few other bits'n'pieces added in later (e.g. Tau Devilfish and Hammerheads)

Re: What Army are you working on and where are you getting minis

Cool. Some of those Tau vehicles are very nice (although I don't like their "size 3 infantry".)

Re: What Army are you working on and where are you getting minis

The Forge World versions of the said infantry are much nicer. Of course they are also pricier but you can't have everything.

Re: What Army are you working on and where are you getting minis

Welcome, Wombat - I love your sig, by the way.

Feel free to post any army list you create here for comments.

Cheers,
Demian

I really kind of like the larger miniatures, but I can understand the frustration with 25mm minis that are 30 mm. Especially if you are trying to match minis.

Thats the good and the bad of a system like this.

The good is you can do what you want. You can pick and choose whatever figures, vehicles, etc from whatever range you like, to make the army you want. That's why I used to love GZG's Dirtside (note to MJ12 - how about some rules for that scale based on Defiance)

The bad is getting the scales / ranges to match up nicely for you.

I know it's your sig, but it works beautifully in this context. I personally don't worry too much about 25-32 mm scaling. (I actually prefer 32mm but they won't call it that cause it scare the kids). It's the future. African bushmen with assault rifles march into battle beside genetically engineered Russian supermen topping 7'+ IN POWER ARMOUR with PLATFORM POWER SHOES.

Re: What Army are you working on and where are you getting minis

There goes the super technological soldier, marching forward to bring destruction to all before him. Only to be stopped dead by the sneaky little guy with the cheap get still suprisingly effective SMG.

Wombat, it's not Defiance-based, but take a look at the Assault Corps board down in the Working Groups section of the forum.  Someday...but will it come before I've sold off all my Epic stuff?  smile
