Topic: VBAM Question

Quick one: is the current version of Victory By Any Means for Starmada compatible with the AE version, or just the prior "X" version? I recall seeing something saying that the AE version is in the works, but I can't find that reference anymore...

Re: VBAM Question

VBAM: Starmada is designed for the previous version (Starmada X). I believe there is a conversion document available that "updates" it to Admiralty, and as you reference, a proper VBAM/Admiralty product is under way.

Re: VBAM Question

Yeah, thats right. I think the main issue is with the fighter bays being as flexible as they are. Hard to model them in a strategic game...

One idea I've had along those lines is to actually split fighter sizes into blocks of 20, and each block of 20 or part thereof, with 20SUs as the base level, represents an increase in fighter size from ultralight. So below 40 its ultralight, 41-59 would be light, 60-79 medium, 80-99 heavy, and 100+ superheavy.

Re: VBAM Question

The shipyard does it in a slightly different way, with basing given as the number of fighter flights carried.
The fighter "size" is worked out on an individual fighter in the flight.
Base figures in SU are:-
1-3 Ultra Light
4-6 Light
7-10 Standard
11-14 Medium
15-18 Heavy
19 > Super Heavy
Larger than 22 does not change the "Size" but it does the cost etc.
Dual Mode fighters move up one class.
You may wish to look at the shipyard guide for conversion ideas.
Hope that helps a bit.

Don't think it works like that, since two flights of 4 will cost more than a flight of 8 of the same fighters.
Maybe set up a par for it, like that can be used to determine the cost of the fighters when the size of the flight is 6.

Re: VBAM Question

That's right, Two flights of 4 Starmada standard fighters cost 72SU, A single flight of 8 fighters cost 65SU.
That is down to the calculation in the core rules. Look at it this way, two flights have more advantages than a single large flight.
