Topic: Ship Classes & Possible Hull Sizes

Just some ideas that are bouncing around in my head.

Feel free with the feedback.

Civilian Ships.
Small Freighters - up to 4 hull.
Large Freighters - 5 to 9 hull.
Passenger Transport - 4 to 9 hull. Size dependent.

Military Ships
Frigates/Destroyers - 4, 5, 6 hull.
Cruisers - 10, 11, 12 hull.
Dreadnoughts - 16 & higher hull.
Space Stations - 20+ hull.

I wish the hull could be raised over 24 so we could make some truly vast things... Deathstars, Leviathans, Borg Cubes, Planet Killers, etc...

Re: Ship Classes & Possible Hull Sizes

This is consistent. Of course, you could decide that everything is twice bigger, or twice smaller. You can even decide that dreadnought have a hull size of 4, whilst other ships are proportionnaly smaller.

Re: Ship Classes & Possible Hull Sizes

My ships are a bit on the big side personally.
Destroyer = 8
Light Cruiser = 14
Cruiser = 17
Heavy Cruiser = 21
Battleship = 27
Carrier = 16
Dreadnought = 36

It all comes down to individual preference.

Re: Ship Classes & Possible Hull Sizes

I believe the formula for hull size, engines, and shields are in the construction rules (don't have my books handy to check for sure). If you wanted to do a bit more math, you can design the larger hulls using those formula.

Re: Ship Classes & Possible Hull Sizes

I tend to go with Escorts down around 4, light cruisers at 6, cruisers at 8-10, battlecruisers 10-12, and battleships 12+.  Never really thought about building large sets of civilian ships...

A "<= 4" setting would be kind of entertaining.  You'd really have to cut back.  And shields would be proportionally more expensive, while engines would be cheaper, so maneuver might outstrip defense.

Also, the Shipyard supports up to hull 30, IIRC.

-- These are like the sizes I'm thinking about. I want to leave the upper hull sizes open for larger things, be it cross genre ships (Star Trek vs Bab5 vs Star Wars vs Battlestar Gallactica vs whatever) or like I said above, "Deathstars, Leviathans, Borg Cubes, Planet Killers, etc...".
