Topic: Alien Armada... some notes

By comparing Federation Commander SSD and Alien Armada, I've noted some things. Of course, those are just remarks, but some may be erratised. Note that also apply to Klingon and Romulan Armada book.

[KA] According to the FC SSD, the Kzinti DN should have three Ph 3 with the BDEF fire arc and 9 drone racks (combining both drone and ADD)

The Kzinti NCC should have two ph 1 with the ABCDEF fire arcs

For the Kzinti BC, the Ph 1 fire arcs CGHI and DGHI should be instead ABC and ABD, and the disruptor fire arcs should be instead ABC ABC ABD ABD

[RA]According to the FC SSD, the gorn DD should have Pl G instead of Pl S

[AA] TheTholian base station has both photon and disruptor.

The Tholian defense satellite is the same as the federation one.

The following ships don't have transporter:  federation heavy war destroyer, fed and gorn monitors , gorn frigate

The romulan defense satellite has Plasma F carronade (AFAIK, no Romulan ship has carronade plasma-F)

Large Q-ships Gorn, Kzinti & klingon: The phaser 3 fire arcs are both DF.

Planetery Defense Monitor Gorn: There are two drone racks

Base stations have neither marines nor transporter

Klingon E7 lacks the transporters; according to the FC SSD, there shouldn't be a probe

Kzinti police cutter: According to the FC SSD, marines should be 6, there should be a probe and 3 transporters

I'm not over with this and could find some other things later.

Web caster/Shield cracker mix up (web caster can break strands / shield cracker can create and reinforce)!!! lol

Re: Alien Armada... some notes

The notes continue. I feel there should be an errata needed for some, and clarifications for others.

[AA] Kzinti Police Cutter (next) : Why does it cost 163, as the FF costs 162 and is better armed?

The neo tholian CA has more hull, a bit less shield, but more weaponry, more marine, but has the same cost as the Tholian CA.

All  neo-tholian ships lack transporters, and, except for the FF, web generator

Neo-tholian DN: According to FC SSD, there should be two ph 1 with CDEF fire arc

The neo-tholian FF is more expensive than the DD, whislt having less equipement, stats, etc. It has 20 marines! And 150 science, 6 shuttles, 3 tractor beams

Orion BC: It has a shield start value of 16, but all its facets added give a value of 22.

On the same page, we have the same orion  battlecruiser or heavy battlecruiser, except one has a cloaking device and one hasn't. According to the FC SSDs, it's ok, but the price increase seems very important; Same thing for the BR, except that the FC SSD doesn't say that it could be equipped with a cloaking device.

Orion BCH, BC and BR: Where are the heavy weapons (it seems there have been replaced by ph 1) and  the transporters?

Orion Base station, DN and CA lack transporters

Orion double raider lacks both marines and transporters, and maybe heavy weapons

Re: Alien Armada... some notes

I continue with the review of Alien Armada.

[AA] Orion Medium raider : According to the FC SSD, it should have two heavy weapon with the AB fire arc, along with two optional mounts (drone racks?), 12 marines and 2 transporters.

Small Q Ship Romulan: The **Carronade on the plasma F should be removed. BTW, if the sole difference between it and the Gorn small Q-ship is the fact that the Gorn Plasma F can fire via Carronade, shouldn't the Gorn price be a bit higher?

Large Q-Ship Romulan: Same as above and as other large Q-Ships, and is its heavy weapon really a plasma D?

Also, its fire arcs are 0.

Planetary Defense Monitor Romulan: It shouldn't have Plasma F Carronade. Compared to the Gorn equivalent, it is cheaper and has two plasma D in addition to the same weaponry.

Also, the Plasma F of the romulan ship  doesn't have the same fire acrs as the Gorn ship.

Romulan Seahawk: It plasma F shouldn't have the Carronade mode. It lacks the 2 transporters, according to the FC SSD.

All seltorian ships lack the transporters, according to the FC SSD

Seltorian Heavy Battlecruiser:. The weapon named ‘shield cracker' should be a ‘web breaker'.

Marc

Re: Alien Armada... some notes

This is almost the end:

[AA] Seltorian Light Dreadnought : According to the FC SSD, the Ph-1 fire arcs should be [AB] [AB] [ABC] [ABC] [ABD] [ABD] [ACE] [ACE] [BDF] [BDF]

Tholian ships are all lacking transporters

Re: Alien Armada... some notes

The Tholian war cruiser has two different prices (290 & 292). Although that's not a great deal, which one is the good one?

They're both "good". One is equipped with Photons, the other with Disruptors.

See the new sticky thread on AA errata.

Re: Alien Armada... some notes

Since these errors were pretty egregious, what can players do about getting corrected copies of the ships?

Re: Alien Armada... some notes

Anyone who bought the original printing of Alien Armada and would like a PDF of the corrected ship sheets, please email me.

Re: Alien Armada... some notes

I had just purchased a printed copy from ADB today via their website (because I neede to get Captian's Log too), do they have the update version of the book?

Also, when Annex first came out, I had gotten the pdf version from RPG Now.  I noticed I had a note from them saying a new version was uploaded to them on 10/6, which is after the original released one that I bought. When I downloaded it, it had the same revsion number. Do you know what the difference was?

They should. If for some reason you get the uncorrected ship cards, email me and I will send you the revised cards as a PDF.

What revision number do you have?

Re: Alien Armada... some notes

I had bought my pdf version on 6/30/2009 which is "Original Version- June 2009."

Then, I saw an email from RPGNow stating that there was an update.  So, I downloaded the new book only to find it the same revision number.  I emailed them, below is the response.

-------------------
Hello,
It looks like the publisher uploaded a new file on 10/6.

-------------------

But, like I said, it was the same.  Did they not link the correct, updated version?

Re: Alien Armada... some notes

I only own Klingon Armada (KA) right now, but Alien Armada is on its way.  In KA alone, I found 10 ships with differences in the armament from Federation Commander (FC).  I'm working on corrected sheets now, and I'll post the drake notation when I have them all done.  I'll look through Alien Armada when it gets here, although I'll only have Starfleet Battles (SFB) to base some of the Orion ships on for now.

Re: Alien Armada... some notes

Darren-

I will check to see whether RPGNow has the right version on the site. In the meantime, the only difference is that the edition from June '09 is missing the multiplier for "Crew-Killer" on page 15 -- it's x2.0.

Thanks, I got an email from them today saying updated and fixed.  Downloaded and it is correct.
Thanks Again,

Re: Alien Armada... some notes

I am rather suprised by the monitors.  Having been described as slow to discover they have a Engines 6, the same as many warships, was something of a surprise.

Shouldn't this be closer to that of freighters, perhaps 3?

Redoing the monitors engine rating to 2-3 is on my Star Fleet Armada conversion list.  I've done the Romulan Eagle ships using TL -1 engines and that made them seem better (engines ratings around 5 instead of 7).  I also redid all of the fast cruisers using TL +1 engines and that added +2 to all of the engine ratings of those ships, which really helped to make those actually feel like "Fast" ships.  I really like the effect of that change.  I even went and converted some of the Fast Raiding Dreadnoughts from the Federation Commander ships online so I can do a raiding squadron game.
