Topic: Battle of Jernalik IV (AAR)
This is a normal Starmada: AE battle using the Alphenan Commonwealth/Mohkair-Lankur Union ships I've posted in the Shipyard section.
The Forces:
Alphenan Commonwealth:
1 Fekalza (257)
2 Fehalza (532)
4 Elraza (216)
Mohkair-Lankur Union:
2 Mohkair (A) (468)
2 Varkair (246)
1 Behkoir (104)
1 Eralkir (136)
4 Likathir (60)
Scenario set-up:
After the Alphenan colony of Lankur seceded and a minor fleet battle was fought that was inconclusive, the Commonwealth decided it needed to establish a forward base in orbit of Jernalik IV, a world in the small Jernalik Union. The Jernalik Union were nominally allied with the Alphenans, but as a small nation chafing under the yoke of the three primary powers, was sympathetic to the Mohkair and, by extension, the Momhali. The Union government decided to support the power that would provide them with security.
To ensure both it had a forward base and the support of the Jernalik, the Alphenan Commonwealth dispatched a cruiser squadron. To ensure they didn't, the MLU sent a cobbled-together task force to stop the Alphenans getting to Jernalik.
...
Both sides had their fighters deployed, slightly ahead of their respective fleets, at the start of the battle. The Alphenans deployed with the Fekalza in the centre, with the two Fehalzas to either side and slightly forward, and the Elrazas slightly forward of the cruisers. The Mohkair-Lankur Union deployed with a pair of Likathirs on either flank, and the bulk of the fleet in an arrowhead formation, the Behkoir at the apex with the Mohkairs and Varkairs on each side, and the Eralkir in the 'quarterback' position.
The first turn, however, saw both Commonwealth and two of the three Union flights destroyed by long-range missile and rocket fire.
The second turn saw the first ship-to-ship salvos fired, as the Elrazas used their EM Torpedoes. The outer two targetted a Likathir, and both hit, completely overwhelming their reactors (turns out a DMG 5 weapon attacking a hull 1 vessel is a painful experience. Who knew?). The other two targetted the Mohkair-As, and both hit as well. The EM Torpedoes overloaded one of the three shield generators and some weapons including both of their LACs (which could have been the most significant thing to happen). The cruisers aimed their missiles at the Behkoir, and the Behkoir collapsed in a massive fireball (all ten hit, all ten penetrated, and six damage dice came up as hull hits)
Return fire was less effective, as the Union concentrated on the Elrazas with all of their weapons. Surprisingly, however, the only weapons that hit were a few rockets, and only minimal damage was recorded.
(The attack of the killer '1's strikes--almost two-thirds of the rolls for the coil cannons were '1's, and the rest? Yep, you guessed it--'2's)
The third and, as it turned out, last turn, saw the two battle lines duel it out. Unfortunately, with their main heavy weapons destroyed, the Union were at a disadvantage. The Commonwealth cruisers destroyed the two cruisers and destroyers, and turned the Eralkir into an engineless wreck for 22% hull damage to the Fehalzas and 44% damage to the Fekalza, and the two mobile Likathirs were destroyed by the Elrazas without additional damage.
Notes: This was my first battle in I think three years, and I was a bit rusty. Think I should have started off smaller, but it was good to finally get back on the horse as it were
