Had the opportunity to have a quick Starmada battle so I chose to play out a skirmish battle between two of my races, the Zharak and Kaltonik.

The Zharak had one Vilakrohl and two Nhilkas, while the Kaltonik had four Ekhiraks. Both sides formed up in line abreast, 26 hexes from each other. To avoid confusion with the Ekhiraks, the one on the far left of the Kaltonik battleline will be called the left Ekhirak, the one on the far right the right Ekhirak, and the two central ones will be the port and starboard Ekhiraks. The Vilakrohl lined up in between the two Nhilkas, so identification is slightly easier. Identification of each side is from their own line (so the port Nhilka faces the starboard/right Ekhirak)

Turn one consisted of both sides moving to get inside weapons range.

Turn two, and two Ekhiraks ended up being 14 hexes from the Vilakrohl, which fired its lance cannons and EM Torpedo. The starboard Ekhirak was lucky and wasn't hit by the lance cannon aimed at it, but the port Ekhirak was much less fortunate. The EMT and lance cannon hit, and the EMT rolled a 6(!) on its impact roll, meaning the Ekhirak was hit by 12 damage. The aftermath saw the Ekhirak with two hull damage, 5 engine damage, 3 shield damage and all but one of its gatling cannons and flak turrets destroyed.

Turn three (and the last turn, for reasons that will soon become obvious) was a very hectic turn. Both sides moved towards each other as before, but the port Ekhirak fell behind and ended up out of range of it's gatling cannon.

The Vilakrohl split its fire, its heavy weapons again targetted on the middle pair of Ekhiraks, but the EMT targetted this time on the starboard Ekhirak, as well as one pulse cannon, the other turned on the Ekhirak on the Kaltonik left. The Vilakrohl targetted two particle arrays on the starboard Ekhirak and two on the left Ekhirak. The Nhilkas targetted its heavy weapons on their respective Ekhiraks, but split its fire with their lighter weapons on the starboard Ekhirak and their respective Ekhiraks (so port Nhilka fires on the starboard and right Ekhirak)

The Ekhiraks meanwhile targetted the Vilakrohl with their flak turrets (including the port Ekhirak), and split their fire with their gatling cannons--four focus on the port Nhilka, three on the Vilakrohl and three on the starboard Nhilka.

The Vilakrohl hits with, and passes the impact roll with, all of its weapons (the EMT 'only' rolled a five, so 10 damage dice from the EMT this turn), save a couple of pulse cannon shots. The pulse cannon aimed at the starboard Ekhirak hit nine times and seven shots passed their impact rolls, while the pulse cannon aimed at the left Ekhirak hit five times and four hits passed their impact roll. The port Nhilka hit with all but one of its chain guns against the right Ekhirak, but all weapons that hit passed their impact roll (the light EMT rolls a 4). The starboard Nhilka hit with all but two chain guns against the starboard Ekhirak, and failed an impact roll with one of its chain guns against the left Ekhirak (EMT rolls a 4).

The Kaltonik, on the other hand, didn't fare so well. Of the 40(!) dice rolled against the Vilakrohl for the flat turrets, 21 hit, and only two pulse cannons hit. Of the 23 hits in total, only eight passed their impact rolls.

The port Nhilka was hit six times (despite having four GCs aimed at it, one missed the first time and the starboard Ekhirak was the most successful aimed, hitting with three shots), and four hits passed their impact roll.

The starboard Nhilka was hit nine times (one GC hitting five times), and seven shots penetrated.

So, onto the damage caused by those shots.

The already damaged Ekhirak lost its last engine point and was dead in the vacuum. However, it still had its weapons, although it was now at fifty percent hull integrity.

The starboard Ekhirak had 3 hull hits automatically from the lance cannon hits, plus 34 damage dice. A total of nine engine, 10 shield, 15 weapon and 12 hull hits were recorded. Surprisingly, the Ekhirak was destroyed.

The left and right Ekhiraks were also destroyed, though far less violently than their unlucky sister. The left Ekhirak suffered one engine, five shield and four weapon hits, as well as five hull hits--enough to wipe out the hull. The right Ekhirak suffered four engine, two shield and four weapon hits, as well as five hull hits.

The Vilakrohl suffered 2 engine, 3 shield, 3 weapon and 2 hull hits, losing the starboard lance cannon and pulse cannon, as well as three particle arrays and two chain guns. The port Nhilka suffered 2 engine, 1 shield, 1 weapon and 1 hull damage, but lost its EMT and a port particle array and chain gun. The starboard Nhilka suffered 5 engine, 1 shield, 1 weapon and 1 hull hit, losing a port particle array and chain gun.

After this, I decided to call it a day--the lone Ekhirak was immobile and unlikely to pull out a win.
