Topic: Distant Armada ESG question

I have a question about Distant Armada ESG description.

On page 13 it says:

For each ESG on a starship, its shield rating is treated as one lower (minimum zero) for purposes of determining hellbore impact dice.

I thought impact dice were determined by the weapons IMP rating, and there is nothing mentioning that hellbores behave differently.

On page 14 it says:

For each ESG on a starship, its shield rating is treated as one higher (maximum 5) for purposes of defending against hellbore cannon

So what is the exact effect of ESG?

Re: Distant Armada ESG question

AFAIK, ESG increases all the facets rating by its value in order to roll IMP dice. Thus, if the lowest facet has a rating of 2, and the ESG has a value of 2, the IMP dice are rolled against a value of 4. In other words, if you are facing Lyrans with Hydrans, forget the hellbores.
Use fusion-equipped ships instead, move fast and damn the torpedoes. big_smile

Re: Distant Armada ESG question

Hello everybody, just a warning that I played SFB for over 20 years so am having a few shocks getting adjusted to the Starmada rules : )

My question is: Do any special conditions apply if the ESG equipped ship is hit and its lowest shield facet is 0 (i.e. down)? Would the ESG bonus still apply?

Re: Distant Armada ESG question

AFAIK, yes.
