Topic: My Own personnal view on SFU ships

Here are some examples on how I view the ships of SFU. First, the Federation workhorse (I will place all the ships I've done later):
As you can see, and as I explained elsewhere, all ships now have the hyperdrive. After all, warp is made for moving at ultra-high speed, and ships should be unable AFAIK to fight at warp speed.
Also, I let down the facets as I feel it makes the ships too vulnerable. I assume the crew is balancing the shields in order to kep them equal.
Each race should have a special traits. Fed has fire control, in part to compensate for the bad long-range torp fire, in part to say they are a bit more advanced than other races on that domain.
Next, I removed the drones, un-fed like. And I try to reduce the weapon type for each race. In the end, as weapons are mounted on the saucer, I tried to place an equal number of phasers on each quarter.

Edit: New file.

Next the Gorn. As for me, Gorn ships are more resistant, I gave them armor plating.
Their weapon suite includes the plasma G (and nothing else), Phaser 1 for offense, Phaser 3 for defense.
BTW, I tried to keep the same fire arcs for the same weapons for all the ships of the same race.

Re: My Own personnal view on SFU ships

Thanks for putting these up.  Please, post some Klingons when you can.

Re: My Own personnal view on SFU ships

Here are those that I have done currently.

And those.

The kids are going to bed early tonight!  Thanks, Marc.

I love the simplicity of these designs. I need to dig out some figures and give it a whirl.

Re: My Own personnal view on SFU ships

I had a great battle with your ship designs last night.  The extra pivot for the Klingons is a nice touch and not using the faceted shields made things go quicker and easier.  The only change I made was to reduce the number of photon torpedos on some of the Fed ships.  I don't play with huge fleets, just small squadrons, so when a ship is destroyed with one volley of photons its a major bummer.  All in all, the battle was close and lasted about 8 turns.  Very nice.

So, thanks again, your designs will hold me over until the new Starmada rules come out.

Re: My Own personnal view on SFU ships

Great to see someone use one's designs!
After some thoughts, I modified a bit the federation CA and CC (and to a lesser extent the CF), as they were too fast. I replaced the former file.

What ships did you used?

I'm suprised to see that you had to remove photon tubes. I used the correct number (with some rare exceptions) as displayed on the FC ship sheets.
As I designed them, they are less powerful than the ones from the official books. Less range, inferior DMG, no overload (I forgot to say that I never remember to decide if I overload my weapons or not, and if I rememebr and they impact, the result is usually ugly), they just have the piercing trait.

Nice designs.  Have you done any work with the Romulans?  (my personal favorites)

Re: My Own personnal view on SFU ships

Yes, I just forgot to put them there. And here are those I've done currently.

Thanks!

And those ones. After that, I will work on bases, freighters, etc.

A Fed CA and 2 FFs vs a Kling D6 and 2 E5s in an asteroid field.  Feds won by three hull boxes.  I cut the photon count in half for all these fed ships and it played well as ships were getting in close to each other.  With double range modifiers and piercing, can hardly miss at close range against level 2 shields.

And, hey, thanks for putting up the Roms!

Re: My Own personnal view on SFU ships

But the Klin should have avoided that range. After all, they are fast and maneuvrable. And even at close range, disruptors with range based imp should have been powerful, no?

Re: My Own personnal view on SFU ships

Should have, but couldn't.  The Klingons were able to stay out of the AB arc most of the time, which was helpful.  We were doing movement with Brian's Rule.  Maybe that skewed things.

Re: My Own personnal view on SFU ships

Note that along with simplifying the ships sheets, I also decided to modify Starmada rules: http://www.mj12games.com/forum/viewtopi … amp;t=3569
As well as the ships, I didn't try them, but it seems that they are somewhat similar with the new rules.
Note that there is no need to write anything.
